I just PM'd the founder of this thread, annerk, to see if they'd change it to $20. That way we don't lose all this history. I am definitely in favor of bumping it up to $20.

I read where the stock market took a hit yesterday based on the inflation news from this thread.

Coincidentally I've been buying quite a few sub $20 wines lately, mainly de Negoce, but some other whites from various wineries.

Maybe we could make the "15" a variable and multiply it by inflation since the thread was first created. :)

I looked up the price of a Big Mac - it was $3.57 in July 2008 (4 months before this thread was created). So, it could be "Bottles costing up to the price of 4 Big Macs".

It was up to $5.17 by 2023.

Lol Ben. The problem with that comparison is the size of the Big Mac may have shrunk by 25% while the bottle has not!

Assuming the size of the Big Mac has stayed the same, the bottle price threshold should increase to $21.70.

That might work, so long as it is defined as 4 * the price of a Big Mac in the country where you're buying the wine. The price of a Big Mac varies significantly between countries (and is used by The Economist as a measure of the under- or over-valuation of currencies around the world), and CT does profess to be a global site.

Currently a Big Mac in Hong Kong is around US$3.10.

2020 Bogle Cabernet Sauvignon. $9 (with tax) and very nice. Highest rating of these over the past 15 years.

2019 Château d'Aqueria Tavel Rosé, picked this up from Last Bottle Wines a few months ago. A fine example of Tavel, very enjoyable and a dollar or so under $15.

This evening I've enjoyed an excellent bottle of white Cotes du Rhone which cost me exactly US$15: 2022 Les Vins de Vienne Cotes-du-Rhone Les Laurelles.

2021 Bleasdale The Wild Fig Shiraz Grenache Mourvèdre - a fresh, charming Rhone blend. Relatively simple and not especially concentrated, but very reasonably priced for a daily drinker if you like the overall style. Looks like retail in Australia/NZ is around $12-13, but I picked up a few at Grocery Outlet here in SLO for $5.

I put my money where my mouth is, and went and purchased the remaining stock of 2020 Bogle Cabernet Sauvignon at my local retailer who was still carrying this vintage. All the others already have the 2021 vintage out for sale.

2019 Tenimenti d'Alessandro Syrah Cortona Solo Rosso

Remarkable wine that probably has 15+ years of life ahead of it. Makes want to try this producer's higher tier offering, the Il Bosco.
