I've seen it coming for some time...like a cop in the rearview mirror approaching from a distance. Not sure whether to feel dread or relief that it has passed me by now...

Just crossed the 2000 bottle count.

The look of terror (terroir?) in my eyes is the looming of 3000 bottles…

Since the first of this year, we've gone from 350 to 250 bottles.

Drinking down, drinking down.

When I got married, the Dow was 1,000. Now it is 18,000. The cellar went from 1 to 1,000 bottles. What's wrong with the picture? Of course, first growths used to be $10. Now they are $1000. So, I guess I am doing OK.

Hitting 1,000 seemed like it would take decades ... that was before I went from 250 to 500 in a year, now i am getting scared at how fast it might arrive?!?!

Building the home cellar has taken my bad behavior to a whole new level.

Congrats Hollowine! (I guess??) :-) I used to embarrassingly tell my non wine friends that I had about 1000 bottles when I had about 1100 or 1300 (just rounding down). I am now just north of 1500...... Not a good sign......

Didn't you just complete a new wine cellar?

Isn't it time for a photo?

A little over a year ago Dr C limited me to 365 bottles, one for every day of the week if we were to stop buying. I now have ~490 in stock with another 80-90 pending. I really need to set a limit and stick to it, and keep it under 600. Preferably 500 since that is what the cellar comfortably holds.

I think we can find enough people to serve on that jury. But, we will need to examine the evidence... very closely... again and again. And our verdict will be very much dependent upon that sampling.

Haven't hit the 1000 mark yet. I am limited by storage space. If and when we ever do the closet conversion to a cellar I might have room for 1200. I doubt I would ever go over that. We have been holding pretty steady in the 800's including pendings for at least a few years now and it is serving us well.

I crossed the 100 cases on hand before I had the same feeling. :) The one that was the real shocker those was when the valuation of cellar added another digit...

Been right around 1000 for about 6 months now. My wine is all over the place... but soon will be somewhat consolidated in a wine storage room that Dr. M has designated in the upcoming rental.

I have been hovering around 1250 for some time now. I can probably fit another 100 bottles or so in the cellar, but I am trying not to max it out. I remember hitting 1K though, thinking I was slightly nuts, but clearly that didn't stop me!

Laughing. Well, it is off site. So not too exciting. But you are welcome to come some time! More importantly you get the benefit of it at most of our monthly tastings!

Some time in the last 2 years I hit 100 bottles. Believe it was when DH found another wine rack at a garage sale for $2 that fits perfectly in a closet. 30 bottle storage capacity added. Two racks, one 50-bottle cooler, vertical space in the pantry for screw cap juice stored upright. Began buying a case here and there, and my 50 bottles doubled quickly. Plan to stay at 100-120. This includes daily drinkers.

Really. Trying. Tempted constantly. Spending time on CT does not help. Too bad.

Sounds like it's time for an Inventory Reduction Party. Pick a date, and we'll see if the Stones are busy that weekend.

I want to be like HRH and S1 when I grow up. Maintaining something in the 800-1000 zone.
I've passed 800, so now the trick is to not pass 1000.

How are you controlling temp & humidity in your new wine cellar?

The unit I keep hearing named is CellarPro.
So I bought one, but it is not installed yet.
It was surprisingly expensive.

If you have a small cellar (less than 1000 cu ft), you can get by with an in-wall model.
These are only coolers. So if your room will drop below 55 degrees in the winter, you will need to add a heater to the room as well.
This is the case with my cellar which is currently under construction.

If your cellar is larger, then you may go for a ducted system. You can add heating elements to those.
