mrs. dontime and I are driving up to the Outer Banks (Duck) in mid August for a wedding, then spending a couple of nights in Charleston on our return. What should we do/see/eat?

Scott?

We just got back from Corolla which is directly above Duck. Not tons to do but try to enjoy the water and stay cool and hydrated. They local restaurants were very much a bust. It seems that some Ukrainian church imports seasonal workers that seem to work everywhere and know almost nothing about local stuff. Your best bet is to grill a lot, which is what we did.

YMMV, but we really enjoyed a nice pool set up at the 12 room manor we rented as a family. Lots of bugs at sundown, but where isn't that the case in Summer?

I can chime in a little on OBX....as far as restaurants in the area, Collington Cafe is my favorite, but that's down in Kill Devil Hills. Blue Point restaurant up in Duck is pretty good. Cravings and Red Sky are decent up there too.

Duck is pretty quiet, and north of all the real touristy stuff in Kill Devil Hills/Nags Head. And my recommendation is bring your own wine

Stay down in Nags Head or South Nags Head

For fresh seafood I do Austin Fish Co or Whalebone down in Nags Head/Kitty Hawk, and up in Duck just go to Dockside 'N Duck.

And Tommy's Market and Wine Shop really isn't much of a wine shop

Already have a reservation at Blue Point. Checked, and they do corkage so I plan to bring some wine. We're staying at Sanderling Resort which is where the wedding will take place.

We used to visit Manteo far south of Duck. Basnights Lone Cedar was a favorite on the causeway. Take your own wine, buy beer at a Brew Thru

The Wright Brothers National Memorial at Kitty Hawk is great!

The Weeping Radish in Manteo is one of my favorite restaurants in North Carolina, definitely worth a visit. The big dune at Kitty Hawk, where people hang-glide, has a great view (and a nice breeze, which you'll appreciate in the humidity).

Tuna fishing on the Outer Banks is great!

In Charleston, I highly recommend eating at FIG, but you may have a hard time getting reservations this late. And don't miss the graveyard at the Scottish Presbyterian Church.
