All coastal counties in SC under evacuation order, strictly so for the barrier islands.
Schools in coastal counties, and in Columbia, closed for the rest of the week (Columbia so they can be used as shelters IMO).
Gov. Haley sending school buses to Charleston to evacuate poor, non-drivers to Columbia.
Inbound-to-Charleston lanes on I-26 being reversed beginning at 3:00 p.m. today.

Princess is watching out for our place in FL but if the storm wiggles west it will come ashore as a CAT 4. She does have an evacuation option inland if necessary.

We do live in a flood zone so we're bugging out tomorrow, well before sunrise. We'll take a few nice bottles with us.

Typical to my luck, I am off Fri through Tues and slated to head up to King's Mountain on the SC/NC border for a Sons of the American Revolution re-enactment weekend (viewing, not participating) before heading down to the lovely metropolis that is Lumberton, NC to buck up the spirits of one of the nieces. Of course this means there is a hurricane bearing down on the Carolinas coastal area.

Where I had been looking forward to some nice top-down driving in the fall weather I instead get to deal with rain and wind.

Just damn.

It seems to be scenario similar to Ike in Galveston 8 years ago. You are in my thoughts and I hope for a significant shift to the east. Stay safe my friend.

Be careful and opt for safe rather than riding it out. I hope the wine fridges keep without power due to the fact they are full.

Hopefully this storm moves out to sea but no need to take chances. Praying for Charleston and our friends in the sunshine state and coastal areas of all the Southern coastal sates.

Drink some tasty stuff S. In memory of the C-town offlines!

The latest storm track shows that it heading to the south after it makes the run up the coast. They are thinking it could circle around and take a second pass up the coast.

Keep your heads down back there!

I hope everything works out for you. Love Charleston, hate hurricanes. We lived through Hugo (just barely lived through it, a big slash pine crashed through the roof right over us!).

Matthew is going to mess up a lot of lives. Y'all seen this satellite photo of Matthew yet?

Thoughts are with you. Please keep us posted.

I have a friend who is planning to fly to SC on 10/8. Planning being the operative word. Hope she is flexible, as I think staying here in CA for a few extra days and rebooking as airlines allow makes sense. But that is me.

Understand someone chose to call 911 in Tallahassee to report that the gas station they visited was out of gas.

Also understand that Wal-Mart usually sells out of strawberry pop tarts early on as folks gather food for the storms. I'm sure there is a perfect wine pairing for pop-tarts somewhere, but it is not relevant to me.

Stay safe! Cheers!

You're totally gonna die!! OK, perhaps a little over the top, but if Haiti can survive this storm then you should be fine & dandy.

The spaghetti plot this AM was crazy, but this one is still a mess. Not loving the right hook option at the end of this either. Its gonna be a crazy weekend down south.

Usually we get peripheral effects in our neck of the woods from these sort of storms but it's not being considered yet here.

The counter point to the scary image is the Saint Bernard pup, complete with dog tags.

Of course if I remember right Cujo was a Saint Bernard...

Anyone have the ability to post some photos of the scene as it's unfolding? Be safe - we're all thinking of you all.

We haven't had a vacation in 2 years, and until Matthew came up, we were planning on taking a quick trip to the coast of SC or Georgia. Nature has intervened.

It'd be pretty boring right now. If I have power, I'll see if I can get something interesting tomorrow morning when it hits.

We left the coast at 4:00 a.m. and drove to the North Carolina mountains. We've got a cool inn on a rushing mountain river; Kyser is permitted to stay. We had some local beers and burrowed into lounge chairs on the deck.
We brought some 'candies' for Burgundy Thursday and a bottle of Schrader for tomorrow. We also brought some vittles, including some Scott's BBQ from the freezer.

Down south, Princess says that the breeze is not frightening yet. They could still see nearly 100 mph winds later. She's celebrating by popping a 2012 CT Napa (the blend I think).

We're trying to relax and enjoy, which will be much easier when we hear from the kid tomorrow.

The Charleston forecast still looks potentially ominous.

Where (in general) in the NC Mountains? I am heading in that general direction tomorrow before looping down (stupid me) east in NC to check on one of the nieces at the beginning of the week.

Glad that you are safe and sound and comfy. Having friends with dogs, know that finding places that accept pets can be a challenge. But if I recall Kyser is a wine connoisseur, not a pet.

My husband is much more Matthew-informed than I am, and he noted about 2 hours ago that Miami and the surrounds may be bypassed. I have a friend who is staying with plans to fly to SC on Saturday, but at least I have her flights so I can monitor the situation....

Years ago, moved from Miami less than a year before Andrew hit. Had friends there who rode out the storm in a condo's master closet. Said it sounded like trains and screaming for 12+ hours. Eerie...

Hope that CTers who are in any way impacted by Matthew stay safe and keep us informed when you can.

B&L are not leaving but they are inland a bit. We're staying in touch. I think the worst will be farther north.
