but looks like a pretty long night for The Princess down in south FL.
She says that she's just glad she doesn't have to pick up pine cones and branches after it's over.
(not her first rodeo)

Well there goes that idea. You are close to Ashville. I will be at Kings Mountain battlefield before heading to that glorious metropolis that is Lumberton.

Great place to dodge the big blow Scott! Fingers crossed for your daughter. And your resident booze.

We have friends from Jacksonville bugging out and on their way here now. But I could possibly spare the time to swing by for a swig of that.

Oh, but I think I see that they still have Yellow Tail. Any port in a storm, but not just any wine in a storm.

Meanwhile, The Weather Channel is actually doing programming like the pre-acquisition shows used to be. Focusing on Matthew, with some of the reporters that I remember. Must be quite significant to make them pre-empt those annoying reruns.

Have not yet determined the location of Jim Cantore....

All stay safe!

Princess is fine--never lost power.
I haven't talked to drycab yet this morning but he should be fine. He's about 40 miles north us us but the worst of the storm is even farther north.
...like Charleston.
Hugo storm surge at Charleston was about 6 1/2 feet; Matthew could be 11.

Lost power around 5:00 this morning. Otherwise no issues yet. Matthew took a slight jog to the east over night and that made a big difference to those of us more inland.

Power is back on. Kudos to FPL. No just some minor clean up. Could have been a lot worse for us. Thoughts and prayers for those on the coast.

Glad things are somewhat stable for you. Jim Cantore ended up in Ft. Pierce last night; that is the test of where the 'cane may be the most, uh, interesting.

Used to live in south FL so familiar with much of the area.

Hope that you are yours take care, and maybe celebrate tonight with decent vino.

Cheers!

Have you noticed that he has not been on the air this afternoon?
Wanna guess where he's going?

Landfall was supposed to be close to where I used to live in Indialantic, next to Melbourne.

The storm stayed 40 miles offshore, so they missed the brunt.

St. Augustine hasn't faired nearly as well. Loads of flooding from the storm surge. My niece (in Arizona) went to Flagler College, and she's been receiving loads of images of the flooded buildings of the college.

Not good.

Charleston apparently has been having a hard go of it....lots of flooding....you're going to need a pick-me-up, Scott. This should do the trick for you:

I did not see Cantore on Friday night. Focus seemed to be on coastal SC.

A friend traveling today, to SC through ATL, has arrived on time in ATL with her connection schedule on time to SC. We will see, but I am glad for her that so far things have actually been going according to plan.

S1 and all you in the FL/SC/NC area - thinking of you today. Hope no CT'ers are too affected & that any flooding is over quickly.

Yesterday we drove to HRH's sister's house in Columbia (no more room at the inn in the mtns--the Schrader was tasty.
We drove home this morning before dawn so we could beat the traffic. Apparently we lost power for less than a day. We don't have cable cable or internet yet so I can't post pictures. Lots of branches and a handful of trees are down. We had no water intrusion. I may try to drive out to the beach tomorrow but I'm not sure I will be allowed. There's not much structural damage at our place. We have a mangled gutter over our front door. Some people lost screen doors/storm doors and fences. We haven't check on the sailboat yet but it should be fine. No school again tomorrow because many people are still trying to get home and many more are still without power. There is definitely some damage but this one was not in the same universe as Hugo, which still gives us the shakes 27 years later. Thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers.

Previously opened streets closed in Chas this morning due to flooding. There is a clear blue sky overhead.

Receding floodwaters meet incoming tide.
