I am not afraid to admit I buy a lot of his wines. Mostly his high end reds: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Francs, Meritage. Very pleased for the most part. I love the Monte Rosso, Stagecoach, and some of the other Lots. They really are superb wines for great prices.

Just ordered a split case of Lot 584 Spring mountain and Lot 613 Red Mountain Wash. Red.

The Lot 573 Meritage I had over Christmas was spectacular and a shiner from the Reserve program. Just handling the bottle you could tell it was from a high end winery.

Anyway would like to hear from fellow Cellar Trackers who drink the wines.

Roger aka Avalon

I've bought a few before, but I don't think Cameron Hughes (the man) doesn't own Cameron Hughes (the company) anymore. The offers seem a little less appealing now.

Cran- I was worried about that too but I can tell you the latest offerings I have tasted are well up to par for CH. The lot 573 was fantastic and sold out quick- only 40 cases.

I know the company was sold at Bankruptcy but I am sure they secured a contract with CH to stay on.

I really would like to develop a dialog with several fellow shoppers on good deals and tasting notes.

Thanks Roger

I was a big fan of Cameron Hughes when he first started. His lot 60 was the one that get me hooked on Stags Leap in Napa valley. However, quality went down and price went up after he took on investors money. I still like the wines, but not with as much enthusiasm as before. Oh, his lot 38 was amazing during its youth.

Lot 656 Arroyo Seco Pinot Noir is a good buy. A substantial Pinot for $ 16, has decent flavors.

I just ordered 6 bottles of Lot 661 Napa Cab 2016. Will see how that is.

One of the issues with CH is that if he makes a great wine this year, then next year he is not guaranteed to get the same contract. I purchased from him in the past but stopped when I had some disappointing wines and had no idea where they actually came from. It is too much like the Garagists mystery wines.

Not me, but I did do a search on CT for "Cameron Hughes". Lots of folks buy them, and they sure put out a lot of wine! For example, they put out a Moscato D'Asti. Who knew?

I do not think he chose investors, I think bankruptcy chose them!

How'd he go bankrupt? I thought he bought excess juice and sold at a lower price.

Would probably buy CH more but they are never open to taste...anywhere. Costco will have a rep displaying them and urging you to buy but they can't pop a bottle in a Costco so not buying for $50 without trying.

I buy based on descriptions, and some faith. The LOT 609 Cabernet he had was SPECTACULAR- think Shafer..

I just ordered some lot 661 2016 Cab.... had a 25$ off coupon.

You get over extended easily in that business. Too many payables, inventory, etc.

My neighbor buys a lot of them, so I taste them from time to time. They're probably all $25 or under and not the fancy stuff, and while some are definitely better than others none ever tasted special to me. Kind of ordinary for the most part--a $15 wine always tastes like a $15 wine.

Not always, that's why this website exists.

Let me make my answer more clear: every $15 CH wine I've tasted tastes like a $15 wine.

Jenise: You need to try the top cabernet's at $ 29 +. These are the wines that top producers sell off. Lot 609 was/is spectacular. I have ordered some lot 661 also. The wines at these prices are equal to Cabernet's at 2x. I find his 15 dollar wines ok, not great.

Just posted another TN on Lot 600.

Lot 669 on CHWINES.COM is from Sandhi, a great buy.
