This is one of our more frequent questions, so Dan worked up a nice FAQ and video:

Hello,

I new to CellarTracker as I have decided to track the activity of the wine cellar I constructed this winter. I also make my own wine and was wundering if I can use CellarTracker to manage and keep track of the wine I produce.

Yes. In fact, please read the first post here and look at the document: https://support.cellartracker.com/article/19-adding-new-wines

You can only add new wines in our full desktop website and not our mobile app.

Can I add a new wine, one I made myself, that I do not want to be publicly seen, in the wine database? Is there a concept of a private wine?? TIA!

Let me repeat the exact sane post before yours.

Yes. In fact, please read the first post here and look at the document: https://support.cellartracker.com/article/19-adding-new-wines

You can only add new wines in our full desktop website and not our mobile app. All wines are searchable in the database. There is no way to add a "private" wine. However, your holdings can be private, based on your privacy settings. Whatever name you use MUST not be confused with a real, commercial winery name.

I occasionally add a new wine, and yes, I have read article/19-adding-new-wines, although I did not watch the video (no broadband here).

Where I have trouble is with the Designation Field, and how that relates to the last question which effects how the wine will be displayed.

It would be nice to let me preview how the wine would be displayed so I can adjust my inputs to get the wine to display correctly.
Once I push the save button, I cannot edit to correct poor display options choices.

Today's example:
Savage Grace released a new wine "2019 De Gris (skin-contact Pinot Gris), Underwood Mtn Vineyards".
So for Designation I entered "De Gris, skin-contact Pinot Gris" and the resulting (Default) display is now "2019 Savage Grace Wines Pinot Gris De Gris, skin-contact Pinot Gris Underwood Mountain Vineyard". Way too long with repeating information.

I hate to sit there and create several new wines just so I can create one with a pleasing presentation. I also hate the thought of having to request an edit from the admins because of my "adding new wines" incompetence. I can also see where it makes sense to not let folks edit wine definitions.

So, an enhancement for a "Preview" of the wine label when adding new wines would be nice.

Thanks
ben

We already have this. Look at the Computed Name field in the interface; it updates dynamically based on the display options chosen, so you can easily pick the right values before saving the wine.

Also, you CAN edit a new wine definition that YOU just created. You only need help from an admin when other people have attached data to the wine. So please, if you make a mess accidentally, feel free to clean it up.

Wow,

OK - I don't know how I missed that Computed Name field.

Also, terrific that you CAN edit a new wine that YOU created.

Excellent work as usual, sorry for disturbing.

How do I do this? I just added a new wine, and forgot to include something important. I thought I should be able to edit it, but can't figure out how.

Edit: Never mind, I figured it out.

Upload a photo of a wine to the forum or the main site? And by "message" are you referring to a forum posting?

The forum doesn't allow image upload. You have to host the image elsewhere (there are many services) and can then link to the image using UBB syntax. In the general discussion forum, other community members have a number of suggestions for the easiest/best image hosting service.

Adding new wines requires more effort than necessary and CT tasting notes often ignore the correct wine or designation and the CT search function is lacking, I suggest.
Examples
Cremant de Loire De Chanceny Brut bought at WF this week. Not listed on CT as per label. Which may have been changed? Who knows what wine tasting notes refer to?
J. V. Fleury Cotes de Rhone 2020 Two different labels I posted a question, no answer?
I attempted to enter another wine and it appeared incorrectly, no way to edit.
Many NV wines esp sparkling are reviewed as NV, bar code date, other.

This is not the place to report this. It is also not helpful to necro bump an old, unrelated thread.

Please post an INDIVIDUAL THREAD in our DATA CORRECTION forum or send a note to editors@cellartracker.com as requested here: https://www.cellartracker.com/contact.asp

Or on ANY tasting note or the page for any wine there is a link to report a problem.
