My vote was yes. My birthyear, 1964, I have tried a time or two but no interest in finding more, the wine generally was almost as bad off as I am. Barbilocks has a different year, but she also prefers younger wines.

My wife is 1964.
Spanish riojas gran reserve are terrific from 1964. I have heard that 1964 was one of their best years ever? I buy them all the time when I come across them.
Relatively, not that all expensive either

Didn’t know this, but will check into it. Thanks!

1964 was also a pretty darned good year for Barolo and you'll find some of the older producers will do a library release from time to time. Borgogno did a release of their 1961 and 1964 within the last five years or so.

so much this
'64 in Piemonte is my favorite vintage ever.
I'm a '61 and HRH is a '62 (also decent in Piemonte)
We were married in '85 and our daughter was born in '90.

I'm definitely on the prowl for these vintages at all times.

1956 is reckoned to be one of the finest years of Chateau Musar. Bottles can still be found. But the price here from their distributor in HK is HK$18,000 (about US$2,300)

When Winebid first started operating and everything but cult California and Australia were cheap (I still laugh at the memory of the idiots buying Duck Muck for $650/bottle), I bought and drank a lot of birth year wines. As the years have passed, I no longer go out of my way to find birth year wines, but I'll bite when I can find good ones at good values so I'll have some for my 50th birthday in a couple of years. One problem is that the regions in which my birth year (1971) was a strong vintage haven't historically been common finds at auction (old Piedmont and Germany) or are extremely expensive (good Burgundies), though older Piedmont wines have gotten easier to find.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on choosing a good vintage year for your nuptials. Did you also choose a good birth year?

I will also back up the truck for '18 Napa.

My wife is a 1971 vintage too and even though she doesn’t drink wine / alcohol any more, I stashed away a bottle of 1971 Domaine Huet Vouvray Moelleux Clos du Bourg for her 50th. It was a pretty good year in the Loire and prices have remained reasonable. One could think of Moulin Touchais, which is priced very reasonably and more or less available.
Besides that I found a 1971 Colares, but I don’t have high hopes for that one

I'm a 61 baby and purchased a bottle of Bdx last year that it will probably open in two years. Anniversary is 96 and I always have a myriad of bottles so we can open one to celebrate each year.

Unfortunately I don't find the prices on 1971 Loires to be nearly as reasonable as they used to be. I drank my last 1971 Huet Demi-Sec Le Haut-Lieu two years ago and it was fantastic. I think I paid about $35 when I bought a bunch in the mid to late 1990s or early 2000s.

To the question - my answer was yes, but I'm not a fanatic about it. I do enjoy 1966 Ports. My wife and I share a love of the 2007 (the year we met) and 2014 (the year we married) vintages, so there are a few bottles & magnums from those years in the cellar.

I had a very nice 1966 Kopke Port out of large format a couple of weeks ago. It was at Pappas Bros. in Dallas for an early Father's Day dinner. They had it along with another Kopke big bottle (both bottled specifically for Pappas) on display on a cart near the entrance, then served from a thief table side.

Bottle

Service, blurred though it is.

Born in 1977 I've always been able to have some BY Ports on hand for a relative bargain, but I've been pleased at some other birth year wines as well. Not stellar vintages for Napa or Bordeaux, but I've had good quality bottles from both when they've been well kept, and being a hit and miss vintage they don't break the bank.

My wife's is 1978, so there are some good red offerings there, though not in her wheelhouse. I did get her a 1978 Dom Perignon (she loves her bubbles) and it was outstanding!

Our anniversary was 2016 though I haven't made a big effort there.

Our first was born 2018 so I've got some Vouvrays and Bordeaux magnums on order for her.

Our second was born this year, so we'll see what looks to be good from 2019.

Oh, yes, I'm all about this! Was born in '61, and had a matching Lynch Bages on my 50th...geez...roughly 7.5 years ago - EEK! Was married in 2000, first child born in 2001, and second child in 2003. Have over 40 bottles of these birth and anniversary wines in the cellar. This may be 'murica, but our children know the taste of wine with their very own birth year Bordeaux; namely 2001 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande and 2003 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste. Actually, they know the taste of more wines than just these two, and the noses of many more.

I have 1 or 2 '61 Barolos in my cellar but they are very likely DOA. We could also meet at Bern's. Last check they still have 61s and the last one I bought there was in pristine condition and drinking well.

I voted no, any decent wines old enough I can't afford.

We may volunteer as chaperones at the 2021 or 2022 Bern down the house parties...

Same here. There aren't many 45's around and even the vintage ports are nowhere near my price range.
