Some attractive prices for futures here in Chicago. Anybody know how the Sauternes harvest came out??

I might purchase some value/affordable reds as these usually avoid the crazy over ripeness some of the more expensive wines can possess in vintages like 2019.

Also note.....i don't need anything.

I decided mostly to pass - did pick up 3 Haut-Bailly and 3 Las Cases. L'Eglise Clinet was over priced, darn. For once I am acting my age, and not buying.

Futures? As an investment or if a restaurant absolutely. Otherwise, why tie up a fortune in something that will be unapproachable for several years. Hell, the water in BDX can't be drank for at least 3 years after bottling. There is plenty of available reasonably priced well aged juice already out there? Between residual 80s, 90s and early 2000's, there is plenty to choose from. BTW, they kick butt. Just my 2 cents.

They do kick butt, and even more so recently. The freshness and drinkability of recent vintages is a testimony to great (mostly) organic vineyard management and modern wine making, IMHO. With futures, you get what what you want, exactly (assuming a reputable retailer).

If you want either 375ml or 1.5L format Bordeaux, I think it's really hard to beat EP pricing. Via EP I typically see no price premium for 375ml or 1.5L. Particularly for 375ml, that just doesn't seem to be the case in retail at release, if you can even find 375s. (If anyone has a great 375 source at release for Bordeaux with good provenance and pricing, please do share!)

Ordering EP for 375ml is typically a cost, time, and hassle saver vs. searching high and low, only to come up empty or pay a premium.

Bumping this thread in light of the 2018 arrivals now and over recent months...and 2019s now getting closer and seem to still have more favorable pricing versus other vintages before and after.

Anyone out there gone through some 2018 tastings lately, and have any opinions to share?

No recent tastings around here. Given the fluid COVID restrictions i don't see any major tastings getting organized. It would be nice though.

Garagiste has been offering a fair number of 2018's upon arrival - Ducru, Lafite, Margaux, Beau-Sejour Becot (I did bite on this), +++. But I have not seen any offers to taste yet.

The 2019 EP prices were compelling - but mostly ignored due to my age. Will be interesting to see how prices change once they are bottled. Liked what I read about the type of wines the vintage produced.

I should have skipped 2019 futures as well due to age but bought some because I am an optimist and like what I read about of vintage style and excellent pricing. There are still some well priced 2019 futures out there!
