Although 10 years from today I want to buy a wine for my 60th bday. 2019 Bdx futures are very cheap and I want to buy a single bottle for me, to be drank alone with some jamón Ibérico and my Golden Retriever on my side. Of all the options I have looked I chose the following 2. Take into consideration that I have never had them beofre and also they will be opened rather soon and not with 20-30 years of bottle age.
I know many would have many other options and are apreciated, but let´s vote for the time being of one of this 2 options

Do you have specific vintages available for each of the wines, or is this just an "in general" question?

It has been a few decades since I sampled either with less than a decade in the bottle. So tough call. Neal Martin does a ten year vintage retrospective tasting each year, and he thought the 2010s of both Ausone and Margaux needed at least another five years (though he much preferred the Margaux).
If it were me I would go with the Ausone, just because i have only had it once.

No offense intended but if I'm reading your post correctly you're wasting your money. Both of those wines are 50 year wines. The earliest I'd even waste one is 10-12 years old. If you're dead set on buying one of those 2019 vintage wines and opening it in 10 years then go with the Ausone. You might be lucky enough it won't eat the enamel off your teeth when you drink it.

You should look for a nicely stored bottle from 1970, preferably a magnum. It was a good year for Bordeaux. Vintage Port too.

The advantage here is that Ausone and Margaux from 2019 vintage in futures are $500 !!! Normally those wines we know are north of $1000 in a very good year like 19. I want to take advantage of the price and although we know that those wines are of minimum 20-25 years to pop one I want to splurge myself that day regardless of.....whatever. If the pricing were normal in the $700-$900 range I would probably won´t buy it

I looked at that and I have problems with the shipping to Texas. If you happen to see something that is sexy please let me know but they have to ship to Texas and that is my biggest issue

Wow - talk about not a bad choice!

I picked Margaux because I think it's prob a bit more accessible at that age, but I agree that both wines can age for quite awhile.

Enjoy! No really right or wrong answers in this....

I hear a 50/50 Margeaux/Metamucil mix is appropriate....

I voted Ausone but that is because I love wines with right bank merlot and cab franc, and also because I think those blends can be excellent at 10 years.

However, there is no wrong answer to this question! So I really wanted the "one of each" option.

I voted Ausone for the same reasons that skifree noted. But I agree with Joe that it won’t show its best; and there is a chance that the wine may be in shutdown mode.

If my Golden Retriever hangs on that long, he will drink very well.
Ed—I recommend backfilling.

Nice thought... Goldens are awesome dogs. I miss Biscuit, our golden (she passed away years ago)... can’t get image cut and paste to work, so I can’t share a photo, unfortunately.

Thats why I love the forum. I snaped out of this bad idea and realized that even if they are not first growth or one of the 3 more sought after pomerols, I do have better options to open in 10 years that opening a wine when it is definitely not ready.

I might put a sticker of " Reserve for 9-Jan-2030" on one of my 2016 VCC . I fnot, I would buy a Vintage port from 1970.

Seems it was not a clever idea after all ......well, maybe I will buy a Margaux for my 8oth bday and drink it with my robot dog in mars

Goldens are angels with paws. I love all dogs, but goldens have such a good heart. Sorry about Biscuit

I've got some and you don't even have to buy it. Just come to the Philadelphia metro area and we'll drink it with some other wine geeks. For kicks, I'll bring a '66 (my birth year) Coheita and we can compare / contrast aged Ruby versus aged Tawny.

Okay! Both those Vintage Ports are ready to drink now anyway. As soon as this corona mess is over, you just say when you're headed north and I'll rearrange my schedule.

I voted Ausone because I like how it sounds when French people say it.

Chateau Musar
Chateau Trotanoy
Ridge Monte Bello
Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia (either white or red) Gran Reserva
