I had a 2018 Carhartt estate Grenache (interestingly enough, the Carhartt grenache is partially made up from an Alban rootstock).opened from yesterday, such a good lighter and floral, but chewy wine. Just popped a 2018 Alban Patrina tonight, which has such a strong aromatic and heavy motor oil, peppery Syrah smell, fresh off the pop (no decant, etc). Huge, Big purple milky wine, vs a nice transparent pinkish-purplish glistening lighter balanced take on a central coast Grenache. So I had the idea to start mixing them together... First 50-50...good and yummy, but sort of non-descript then 80-20 grenache to syrah, wow reminding me of a really nice CDP then 80-20 Syrah to grenache. Boom, this mix is ridiculous. Taking the edge off the PAtrina , with a really nice aromatic from the grenache. Fun experiment, and got me to thinking about a cool concept for a rad wine bar.
