It is with sincere regret that I must announce that there will not be a 2022 Goat Rocks Syrah wine.

The details are that I was not able to manage the vineyard this year in a way that a) avoided mildew and b) avoided bird damage. As referenced above in this thread, we have had a bit of a chaotic summer/fall with some family medical issues that diverted my attention for the months of August, September, and October. Not an excuse, but a fact, and my only regret is that I possibly would have reflected badly on Justin and Brooke who did everything possible to attempt to salvage this harvest. It simply did not work, the early results showed we were not going to have a wine worthy of JB Neufeld, or the Naches Heights AVA, and were entirely due to things that happened in the field.

Barb and I appreciate the interest and the folks who expressed interest have already been contacted regarding a sort of "consolation prize", and I hope we can attempt this again in 2023.

Oh gosh - I'm so sorry to read this!
I hope things have settled down for you both.

Chris, what a prince you are. I received my 'consolation prize' and can't thank you enough. I feel bad that you felt so bad you had to do that, and of course you didn't have to at all. Nobody would have wished whatever disruption you experienced to have occurred--lots of loss on several levels. Thank you so much. Look forward to being a customer in the next round.

Well said, Jenise. Chris and Barb truly have hearts of gold.

I've noted on more than one occasion that one of my favorite guilty pleasures is an almond butter & honey sandwich paired with WA Syrah. It's magical. I think I need to find out whether almond butter & WA Syrah jelly with WA Syrah works as well!

Yes received my unexpected gift today, I'm not sure I'm worthy but I can't wait to try the jelly tomorrow morning! Thank you so much and happy holiday to you and your family Chris.

Thanks Jenise and guys, I really was planning to do this before the wine flopped. :)

+1, so well said.

Love the G&T idea for the Verjus, was also thinking about it in a Manhattan!

This Eric, Barb and Chris do indeed have hearts of gold, and the unexpected and totally surprising gift box was so much fun to open, study and consider the future uses of the contents. Manhattan? Hmmm… I had not considered that but why not? My thanks to Justin and Brooke as well as it was Chris who introduced me to JB Neufeld’s wines years ago.

As GalvezGuy said, in for a case next year.

Yes what a lovely gift! We did a taste test of the jellies last night with lamb chops. The most discerning six year old Peni need both good but preferring the syrah. She is definitely a child of Washington!!!

Chris - I’m not on the forum a lot, so when I looked on the Goat Rocks Thread this morning, I was surprised to find out about your Syrah. I did receive your wonderful package last week and was delighted by the “goodies”. Now I understand. I pray that your medical issues have resolved and that you and your family can enjoy this holiday season. You truly are a gem. Count me in on your future harvests.
Thanks again for your great gift.

Merry Christmas and happy and healthy New Year

Jeff

UPS wasn't delivering at our place for almost a week because of snow. But we got it finally last night. Our street is still covered in ice - but the cross street is not. So, the UPS driver parked at the intersection and walked the package up the icy street at 9pm to deliver it. I guess emblematic of this where someone cares enough to go well above and beyond to bring joy at the holidays. Thanks to UPS and Thanks to Chris and team for such a lovely gift.

My apologies. I'm late getting on the forum, again.

Nevertheless, I'm in complete agreement with everyone before me.

Chris and Barb are indeed some of the kindest, most thoughtful people on the planet.
While you were both dealing with family medical issues, you were still thinking about your 'wine community' here and how to make lemonade (jams & verjus) out of lemons (grapes not quite befitting Goat Rocks' inaugural CT project). I don't know how you do it!

Please tell Barb she's absolutely right; syrah jam on sourdough is the bees knees! We'll be testing the verjus G&Ts over the weekend.

Thanks also to Justin and Brooke for graciously agreeing to make a wine just for us CT geeks.
Looking forward to this project in 2023!

Thank you guys!

Kelly & Pete

I need more info on verjus in a G&T: use it like a squeeze of lime, or what?

That's what I've been doing. Calibrate to your tastes, but I've been adding a small splash instead of lime, and it really gives a nice acidic bite.

I sent Chris a PM about his business model as soon as I tasted the Syrah jelly. Most wineriesuse wine to hook customers and THEN offer them other products. Chris is turning the b u siness model upside down. Hook them with jelly and verjus and offer a Jelly/Versus Club with annual or semiannual shipments. Then offer them wine! Very clever, Chris! Very Clever!

Okay, Chris! I GIVE UP! I am in!

I got an accidental photograph of the vineyard, er, jelly farm, today that I thought was pretty cool. The flats are the Cowiche Creek flood plain where my neighbor grows hay, and the boulders and hills are the Naches Heights Andesite, with our vineyard tucked in to the left side of this shot. Not sure what the bird is, but I'm guessing Cooper's Hawk.
