Black Coyote Cabernet Sauvignon changes appellations and/or vineyards every so often. Things are further confused by the fact that what looks like a vineyard designation is actually just part of the logo on older bottles ("Bates Creek Vineyard" is the original name of Black Coyote Wines.). They only make one Cab each vintage, however, so with vintage there should be no confusion. Here's the rundown.

2005 Black Coyote Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve - Appellation: Napa Valley, Atlas Peak - Vineyard: not specified. Only "Reserve" produced. No "regular" cab. This record is duplicated here (with a pending edit).

2004 Black Coyote Cabernet Sauvignon - Appellation: Napa Valley, Stags Leap District - Vineyard: NOT specified. Despite the words "Bates Creek Vineyard" on the label, the data sheet from the producer web site indicates: "86% Cabernet Sauvignon from Steltzner Vineyard, 14% Merlot from Juliana Vineyards" This doesn't appear on the label.

2003 Black Coyote Cabernet Sauvignon - Appellation: Napa Valley, Stags Leap District - Vineyard: NOT specified. As with the 2004, the words "Bates Creek Vineyard" appears on the label, but the data sheet indicates: "86% Cabernet Sauvignon from Steltzner Vineyard, 14% Merlot from Juliana Vineyards"

In 2002 and earlier the grapes really are from Bates Creek Estate's vineyard:

2000 Black Coyote Cabernet Sauvignon, Bates Creek Vineyard - Appellation: Napa Valley - Vineyard: Bates Creek Vineyard.

The 2000 and 2001 vintages were sold as from producer, Bates Creek Vineyard effectively making "Black Coyote" a designation. However the labes look just like the '02-'04 labels (adding to potential confusion). I suggest a producer change to:

Black Coyote (Bates Creek Vineyard)

to stem any future duplicates.
