I'm flying into SF for a few days of business and was looking for a good wine shop in downtown. Anyone have some recommendations? I'm near Market and the financial district.

The best of them!!  K&L Wine Merchants on 4th st

Bit of a walk, but worth the couple bucks on the cab fare, depending on your purpose.

Also, if you have the time, there is a great wine bar called the Hidden Vine that is on Post and Taylor.

God I miss San Francisco...

I'll give a big second for K&L. The staff is friendly and helpful. If you are unsure if it is worth the trip down, you can give them a call and then go down if they have something you like. I work next door, where I am not even allowed to think about alcohol, so I have to do my shopping on my days off.

When I lived there (which was quite a while ago) there was a great place on Polk & Green. Plus I knew a really hot chick that used to live across the street from there.

As I said, it was a long time ago - now she probably has 8 kids, weighs 400 pounds and the wine shop sells branded wines. Who knows.

William Cross Winemerchants. They are still there. Also just around the corner on Green is a nice Italian wine shop that's been open a couple of years.

Forgot about them.  Only stopped in once, but the owner was a nice guy and they had a decent selection.

If you have a chance to get out and about, stop by at Kermit Lynch in Berkeley.

Que Syrah wine bar near San Francisco State is good too. http://www.quesyrahsf.com/

when are you in town?   I recommend Kermits in Berkely as well, but I spend a few days a week just a few blocks from K&L  on 4th.  If you're there and you give me a heads up I would love to meet you there and chat wine.

Cheers,
dave
