I fancy a Bordeaux tonight. I'll open whichever of the following gets the most votes in the next 30 minutes.

D de C 85 duly removed from the cellar and decanter-bound.

Good choice, the Troplong was too young and the D de C may not have too much longer.
Enjoy.

DDC is a great wine. Enjoy.

Bought six of these from a guy who bought a case last year - having tasted one from his case when he bought it. It was magnificent. Hope this one lives up to it. Starting work on Beef Stroganoff now so I'll pour a nice large glass to lubricate myself during the cooking process.

I do fancy trying the RS96 sometime soon as I have a dozen waiting for me. Maybe next weekend.

Hmm, Stroganoff. I voted for the '85 before I read this. My mind now wanders to the '96 Rausan-Segla. Not a great period for this chateau but with that cream or yoghurt I feel you need a little tanning. I'm especting the DdC to be fully mature and may need soemthign more delicate on the food front. Who knows? Let us know how you get on. Curry for me tonight and I'm trying to match that to a Cotes do Roussillon. It's a biodynamic wine Bryan, so one of your favourites! [;)]

Experience had taught me not to touch anything good from 2000 for another 7-8 years... at least...

Not too worried about food matching really - mealtime is mostly fighting with the girls. The drinking mostly comes before and after. Still, after stropping that she "didn't like it" for ten minutes before actually trying any, Alex has now decided that fillet steak is OK after all. Good lass. Now I just need to get her started on sheep's brains.

The DdC is fully mature, and really quite lovely and elegant. No alcohol indicated on the label but probably about 12.5%. Don't see that much these days. It'll never be my out-and-out favourite, but I really should drink more claret.

Oddly, I only ever drink Bordeaux with food. It's one of the few wines that I just don't enjoy without the meal.

Oh, I quite agree that wine is at its best at table (pretty much all wine, in fact.) It just doesn't quite work, though, with two little'uns to corral. Tomorrow's barbecue should be easier to manage that way, as food will start about 2pm and be fairly constant for six hours or so...

It's a shame that Serge didn't respond to this thread. I think that , besides the normal diatribe about "who gives a flying fark", Serge might offer Hemlock as a choice [;)]
