And now we've lost Wayne Shorter.

Dang. [:o]

Wow, I loved Shorter's sound and inflection... on both tenor and soprano. I thank him for leaving behind a great legacy in my musical soul.

(Old man rant; proceed at your own peril.)

[image]https://www.wadcorp.net/Images/Tickets/ticket_RollingStones_1981-10_500.jpg[/image]

We've slowly, very slowly, been getting back to going to live music for the first time since February 2020.

In early July, went to see Sparks. Had never seen them live, but a fan since 1979. They have been touring constantly, but were last in Kansas City back in 1986, the year before we moved here. Amazing show by the way.

Tickets were expensive, but not unreasonable at $85 each.

Today, I got in on the pre-sale for Elvis Costello tickets. Neither of us have ever seen him & Catherine was particularly keen to go. So I checked in at 10:00 a.m. this morning to the website. They wanted $270 each for tickets (yes, this included taxes & fees). So that would have been over $500 total for two tickets. We were aghast. Catherine said no way. So we've passed on the opportunity.

I know this makes me sound so very old, and going to see significant shows “back in the day” for $10-12 doesn't help.

I’d heard Taylor Swift tickets got the recent tour were being scalped for over $1,000, but I personally am just finding it impossible to pull the trigger when concerts get much higher than $150.

I’ll buy the album.

This is likely similar to a favorite wine from the late 1980s continuing to rise in price until it becomes cost-prohibitive just on principle.

Weather Report's “Black Market” was released on this day in 1976.

Saw them in concert on that tour for the first time. Just amazing.

Echo & The Bunnymen - Evergreen

They are playing in Chicago in a few months......very interested in going to the concert. Never seen them live and I've been a fan since the mid 80s.

Been listening to this chestnut today. Going to see Steve Hackett in concert tomorrow evening. This is the “Foxtrot At 50” tour, so likely the entire first half of the show will be a run through the album.

It was never my top Genesis album, but this will be my first opportunity to see Steve so…

I'd seen Genesis three different times over the years, starting in 1978. Of course, that is when Steve abandoned ship & went solo.

Should be a great time.

A wonderful concert. The band played a few tunes from Hackett's current album, then a few more of his solo tunes. After a 20 minute break, the band came back & ran through “Foxtrot” in its entirety. The encore was three more Genesis tunes.

All the musicians were tighter than a drum. Excellent work. Nice to hear a number of the old tunes live.

How many members of the original band played?

Perhaps a trick question? None.

Hackett replaced Anthony Phillips way early on in Genesis. “Foxtrot” was the band's fourth album & Steve Hackett was established since “Trespass”, the album prior.

But none of the other members of Hackett's group were involved with “Foxtrot”. But most of them have been playing with Hackett for over 10 years.
