BenNoir -> Top 10 Producers in your cellar (6/16/2017 1:45:58 PM)

Was curious about who my top producers were (of my existing inventory).
My cellar has 182 producers, but my top 10 account for 25% of my cellar.
The top 10 included 7 from Washington, 2 from California and 1 from Oregon.

I'll play.

Keep in mind I run my own online wine business. But all the wine belongs to me essentially, and I mix my personal and commercial stock on CT.

Joh. Jos. Prüm 8.6% Bottles (196) / Value £3,610 / Cost £3,610 / Average vintage 2013.1

My cellar's very shallow as I concentrate (to the extent you can call my whimsical buying habits concentrating) more on breadth than depth, but:

Reynvaan
Teutonic
Climens
Pontet-Canet
Cune
Chapoutier
Rivers-Marie
DeLille Cellars
Domaine Chandon de Briailles
Domaine du Pégaü

That's an easy one as I already have that Search saved. Of my Top 10, all producers are ones for which I'm either in their club, allocation email, or receive their email offers. I've also visited 7 of the 10, which there may be nothing more enjoyable to do, and the other 3 were sourced from this great community!

Force Majeure 5.5%/ Average vintage 2011.7

Tablas Creek 5.3% /Average vintage 2012.6

Cliff Lede 4.9% / Average vintage 2012.7

This was interesting, top 10 a mostly Bordeaux, with the other 4 from NZ and Australia. from 11-20 becomes much more diverse, I will be trying to grow that diversity in the next few years

They retail LB in NZ??? If so, you must live on the North Island.

BigJ -> RE: Top 10 Producers in your cellar (6/16/2017 6:10:40 PM)

haha[8D], it may be a small country, but its not that small! I buy my wine mostly out of Auckland, which I think is normal for most buying Bordeaux, as it is a city with 1/3 of the country's total population.

I think visiting is important. There will always be good wine, but the wine we buy is expensive, and spending my dollars with people I like is important - more so than almost any other product I buy.

I have visited 8 of my top 10. I have not been to Quivet (they are down there in California somewhere), or Secret Squirrel - I can't find them!

My cellar is very diversified at the moment so the top 10 account for around 18% only.

My top 10 is very different from you guys. Only regreat is not to have any top riesling producer (new to riesling) or burgundy (cannot afford any way)

Where are your Rhone wines? [:D]

PinotPhile -> RE: Top 10 Producers in your cellar (6/16/2017 11:52:55 PM)

Small, frugal cellar here. <150 bottles. Includes wines intended for consumption 2018 or later.

Navarro Vineyards 10.2%
Kingston Family Vineyards 4.7%
Kosta Browne 3.1%
Sandlands 3.1%
Mirafiore 3.1%
Domenico Winery 3.1%
6 others tied at 2.3%

Not surprised that one Chilean and one Italian producer made it to the top 10. Overall relatively consistent w/my cellar strategy. CT sure makes it easy now that I've loaded all that da$$ data after buying a larger cooler this year.

Cheers!

Unsurprisingly, I like Rioja and Madiran.

This manner of recording is a little bit of a blunt instrument, though, as both Alain Brumont (Montus, La Tyre and Bouscasse) and Herman Jouffreau (Clos de Gamot and Clos St Jean) would be 2nd and third if correctly recorded as 'producer'.

And now for something completely different...

Herdade da Maroteira 8.5% Bottles (48) / Pending (18) / Average vintage 2013.7
Campolargo 8.0% Bottles (62) / Average vintage 2009.4
Terras d'Alter 6.2% Bottles (48) / Average vintage 2012.0

Aldeias de Juromenha 2.8% Bottles (22) / Average vintage 2010.9
Álvaro Castro 2.4% Bottles (19) / Average vintage 2012.2

I've visited 9 out of 10 and I entirely agree on its value - each sip is a memory of the visit, and either adds (all of the above), or removes (a few from whom I will never buy again) a point to the final score.
