mye -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPONSE REQUESTED BY FRIDAY 7/14 (7/10/2017 10:00:29 PM)

I'm good with blind bid waiver. I like it in fact!

GalvezGuy -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPONSE REQUESTED BY FRIDAY 7/14 (7/11/2017 7:10:18 AM)

I would prefer NOT to use the blind bid auction waivers. The worst teams should have first crack at free agents. I will play whatever everyone decides, just my $0.02.

Blue Shorts -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPONSE REQUESTED BY FRIDAY 7/14 (7/11/2017 10:48:00 AM)

Snoop2Nutz and I prefer NOT to use the blind bid, for the same reason as stated by GalvezGuy

Regarding rules - I propose we switch to blind bid auction waivers. Most leagues use blind bids now to award players off the waiver wire. It's more like real football than rotating priority. Personally I've never played in a blind bid waiver system but would like to try.

Hankj ,
Thanks for the idea AND explanation, but I would prefer we don't use blind.
I also prefer Yahoo.

Btw, ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!! [8D]

BRR -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPONSE REQUESTED BY FRIDAY 7/14 (7/11/2017 2:19:54 PM)

I'm not participating this year, but I'll chime in on the proposed blind bid waiver system FWIW. In a league I've done for 9 years now, we instituted this 2 years ago. I was dead set against it, but I was overridden. I'll say this, after two years: I'm a convert. It allows you to be far more strategic, and can even allow the "best" teams to mess themselves up by overpaying. If you really want a waiver add, EVERYONE has the ability to go after him/her if you have money (versus having zero shot because your team is good). Again, tell me to jump in a lake and stuff it, but it is kind of fun.

Also, you're able to see what the non-winning teams bid for the same player after waivers clear, which is always interesting to see. For example, it's fun to see if you successfully bid $1 more than the next highest bid. It's also quite funny to see you far overpaid for a player. I once acquired a free agent I really wanted and, fearing that everyone was going to bid for him, I paid $25 of my $100 budget. The next highest bidder? $7. Translation: I waaaay overpaid.

The best teams tend to make the best decisions.

Blind bid is a decent system for more cut-throat leagues. I can see why some people like it.

I prefer the current system because it tends to keep most of the teams competitive towards the end of the year.

mye -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPONSE REQUESTED BY FRIDAY 7/14 (7/11/2017 8:58:48 PM)

i'm good with whatever folks decide btw.. if i vote, i vote yah but i don't really mind either way.

mc2 wines -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPONSE REQUESTED BY FRIDAY 7/14 (7/13/2017 6:59:53 AM)

We're pretty agnostic on this one. Can see benefits to both sides. On one hand, there is something for rewarding strategy. The game already has a lot of luck in it and this tamps that down some.

On the other hand, there's something about keeping everyone excited where you know that if your team is having issues you get the next big free agent out there.

So I think we have:

For - hankj, mye

Against - snoop2nuts, Blue Shorts, Galvez Guy, wine247365

And waiting to hear from a number of folks (also to hear if they are participating again...)

My vote would be if we don't get confirms by EOD tomorrow, we start pulling from waitlist. Thoughts?

atkinson_b2 -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPONSE REQUESTED BY FRIDAY 7/14 (7/13/2017 7:17:57 AM)

You've lured me out of hibernation :)

Yep, I'm in, and while I don't think I'd mind if we went with the blind-bid, I'm going to vote to keep things the same.

Szulcey -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPONSE REQUESTED BY FRIDAY 7/14 (7/13/2017 7:59:14 AM)

Love this time of year!

Thank you for accepting my FF application, I've heard a lot about this league and I'm excited to throw my hat (or bottle - TBD) into the ring.

I was also against blind bids for a long time, however, I've grown to love it after 3 years. I'll be happy either way but my vote is for blind bid waivers.

Commish, can you please change my name to Seriously?

Thanks again, going to be a great season.

IzeAgeComing -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPONSE REQUESTED BY FRIDAY 7/14 (7/13/2017 9:09:11 AM)

Hello again all! Sorry I've been MIA over here this summer. Been a crazy time.

But now it's football time again! And I'm back in. Wine TBD.

On blind bid...can someone specify a bit for me what the default Yahoo system is when opted for this? FAAB of $100 for year each no trading of budget or other things that might be involved?

I think the ideal system would be start with blind bid for first maybe third or half of regular season when sample size of matches isn't necessarily enough to determine the best teams for sure, and then reverse order after that to keep weaker teams in the hunt. But pretty sure that's not a thing.

mc2 wines -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPONSE REQUESTED BY FRIDAY 7/14 (7/13/2017 9:37:51 AM)

Fair enough, we should prob have defined blind bid.

The way it works in our other league is everyone starts with $100. When you attempt to get a player on waivers, you both choose the player and the amount you are willing to pay (including $0 I believe). Whoever 'pays' the most money for the player gets that player and loses that amount of money. If you don't get the player, you keep whatever you bid. It therefore allows you to assign importance to that new player and for the person who values the player the most to get them.

I think a switch later in the season doesn't work quite as well. Part of the strategy is not use all of the 'powder' early and keep some for later.

Another option (from another league we do) is the reverse order of drafting. E.g. - whoever drafted 8th would get first rights to waivers. As ppl 'use' their waiver position they get moved down to the bottom of the list. So it's another 'fair' way rather than strategic way to allocate although there is some strategy on when a player is worth 'using your waiver' for versus not.

IzeAgeComing -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPONSE REQUESTED BY FRIDAY 7/14 (7/13/2017 2:37:36 PM)

Gotcha. Ok I'm for blind bid. But not a strong opinion. Perfectly fine if it stays the same.

Welcome to CT! Good place for a first post!

when you say change your name, do u mean in Yahoo? you can change it to anything u like.

I put a slash on the O/P with the updated name. And once we get final numbers we can get leagues and invites out and all of that.

I think we have 3 more ppl we're waiting on confirms from and 3 ppl on the waitlist.....

Afraid so for this year. At this point we have 3 ppl left to confirm and 3 ppl already on the waitlist so spots are taken. Always next year!

Samhagen -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPONSE REQUESTED BY FRIDAY 7/14 (7/16/2017 7:58:23 PM)

Note to self: Log into the forum at the beginning of July for Fantasy Football. If there were enough people interested, would you considering upping to a 10man league?

This is our only 8 team league and have really liked keeping it that way, but can open it up to the group to get other opinions.

Szulcey -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPONSE REQUESTED BY FRIDAY 7/14 (7/17/2017 6:17:32 AM)

Thanks Mye, that makes perfect sense. For some reason I thought the name was linked to CT. I'll change it in Yahoo. Thanks again.

Number of teams - I would be ok increasing to a max of 10 per league. More bottles to win!

Blind bid for waivers - Yes, if Yahoo! has that option.

Platform - prefer staying with Yahoo!

Any chance we can start planning a draft date for the calendar? Thanks!

I like the consistency of the league and would vote for minimal change to rules and # of players.

Blue Shorts -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPOND TODAY (FRI JUL 14)!!! (7/17/2017 1:43:06 PM)

Same here. I prefer 8 player leagues.

skifree -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPOND TODAY (FRI JUL 14)!!! (7/17/2017 4:14:36 PM)

I am fine with 8 or 10, assume there would still be 4 playoff spots.

mye -> RE: CT Fantasy Football 2017 - RESPOND TODAY (FRI JUL 14)!!! (7/17/2017 5:45:39 PM)

i'd like to keep players to 8 since we really have 16 total. it's a change of pace from other 10/12 player leagues.
it's like a true fantasy team where everyone have studs every week :)
