I'm in for the Grassl. Wednesday dinner in the city of Charleston would allow some people that will be flying in to join us. I will defer to the locals for choice of restaurants for both Wednesday and Friday. I've never had a bad meal in Charleston. Some wines that I am ready to declare 2 of each '96 Haut Brion, 96 Dom Perignon, '97 Biondi Santi Riserva, and one '95 d'Yquem for Mr. MC2wine. Sourcing '01 burgundy and looking to add some more bottles to fill in where necessary or just because. Looking forward to an epic weekend. Vaccine Monday.

Excellent. Congrats on the vaccine. I’m on day 12 and feeling immuner and immuner with each passing day!

I contacted Ridge about putting together a vertical of Monte Bello for us. After some back and forth, they have generously offered half off their library pricing for up to two bottles of each of the following wines. Prices are after the discount.

Monte Bello Vertical
1978 $300.00
1985 $325.00
1997 $300.00
2005 $225.00
2011 $170.50

Maybe this will work for Sunday?

Mason

I have 2x '04, 1x '06, 2x '07, 2x '08

Missed this but very happy to contribute to this purchase and I can look to source some more since the 90’s ones are awesome.

When it comes to dinner on Wednesday night, I'd like to throw out an idea. Please feel free to say "no" as it will not hurt my feelings.

I'd like to offer dinner at Perrone's in Pawley's Island as an option. I promise the food is phenomenal and it is where I have a private wine locker. It is 70 minutes north of the Snee Farm front gate directly on Hwy 17. There is a private dining room for 10 (squeeze 12) with full AV and audio.

I can get the chef to set up any special menu items in advance. Since he dry ages his own steaks in house, we could have 120+ day dry aged prime steaks or any fresh local seafood added to the daily menu.

We could bring our own wine and even have the chef pair/match whatever we bring. The chef/owner is a personal friend of mine and would love to host an event like this.

I know it is a drive, but I just rented a van/driver last week to take a group for a birthday party from Pawley's to Charleston for the day and it wasn't expensive at all. I'm sure it would be even cheaper on a Wednesday.

Is something we can think of for Friday night instead or can’t handle whole group? It sounds great but might be ambitious on Wed. We’re planning to get in that day but might be right to have to get to a dinner spot too far out.

Prob ~2 hrs from downtown Chas, esp on Fri night.
I’d personally rather not spend that time on the road.

Just under 2 from Pawleys to the bridge if I've got to get to a CofC soccer game to see my son play. 😉

Friday a better bet in CHS.

We are in for the Ridge as well, if that is what the group wants to do.
Sounds like a nice option.

Did my 1992 Ridge Monte Bello from last year start something during the Old and Blind session on Sunday?
Should have saved the bottle for this year....

So we’ll need a tally of Sunday participants before Mason and I buy a bunch of MB. Since it will be Sunday lunch, one bottle per vintage should suffice. Brother Clancy can chime in on what he wants to bring to fill a hole.
Roast lamb or a Flannery bone-in sounds good; I’ll ponder doing it myself rather than reserving the country club.

Also, how many people would rather look into a Grassl purchase rather than schlep your own stems?
Those rental stems from last time sucked.

Grassl fine on our side as well although I think we're going to want more than one stem per person so would be good to figure out what is reasonable to do for that since I know that can add up quickly. Agree the stems from last year weren't great and not sure what the options in Charleston are but have rented glasses in the past where you can get some decent ones and it comes out to more like $3-5 per glass.

I already bought the MB and it's safe in my cellar! I have two bottles of each of the following: 78, 85, 87, 05, 11, all direct from the Ridge cellar. I'm fine with keeping one bottle of each for personal consumption if we only want to taste one of each.

As for glasses, we will do some research, but I'm not confident there is a place around here to rent decent crystal glasses.

*edit: the oldest bottle is 1978, not 1979

I'd vote we do one bottle of each vintage and then maybe fill in with some additional vintages. We just popped a '93 about a week and a half ago and it was awesome (part of the downside of not being so good keeping up with forum although my father in law had been eyeing that bottle so I think it was nice to be able to share with him). We can keep an eye out though. I'm excited! One of my favorite wines. And as it's Sunday prob starting with a champagne sipper isn't the worst idea.

Note: Not everyone needs to bring a Monte Bello. Those that don't have it can help cover the cost of the vertical purchased direct from Ridge.

Hey all...not been on here much lately, thought I replied but obviously I hadn't.

I'm in from some Grassl stems if that happens. Probably would like at least two, generally prefer to have up to 4 stems if tasting many wines.

I'm also in to help offset the MB purchase as I don't own any, if that becomes a single themed gig. I suggested earlier in this thread a good way to level the cost of purchase and donations if there is a single theme going on, did it with a Dom P dinner a few years back and thought it worked very well and no one feels they are left holding the bag...

Other than that, zero clue what to purchase for the Burgundy night... I'll probably bring a suitable Champagne unless I just task S1 to find something for me.

Also, since my bro Franklin is also flying solo, we will likely pair up for our contributions as a "couple", so maybe he has some ideas...

Good idea. Berg A and I tag-teamed on a few wines at Chas II.
On the Ridge, I’ll pay Mason, but could source another vintage if necessary.
So all my wines are now declared, except bonus bottles.
I’m pondering a “ringer” for Bordeaux night.

The 1987 would be great. I might suggest you hold the 2013 as it feels unfair to baby kill, but happy to be overruled.

I got vaccine today and better half has second in two weeks so we're definitely in!

For Burgundy Thursday we will bring:
2001 Christophe Roumier Ruchottes-Chambertin
2001 Chateau D'Yquem

For Bordeaux and Saturday still working on it. Also working on an aged Monte Bello but happy as well to contribute to the group's acquisition.

Should be fun!

All this talk about Monte Bello makes me angry I can't be there on Saturday and Sunday.

But, as for Thursday and Friday is concerned, my 2001 Faiveley and 1996 La Mission arrived today. They are currently sleeping safe and sound in a nice dark place.

I detect a win for C and a win for M in that post

OP edited to show offered MBs, as well as the “offerers.”
As we finalize the lineup I am willing to fill a hole or just chip in as needed.

The Tack Room at Circa is confirmed for Saturday night.

I emailed Linn L at Charming Inns in case anyone is looking for lodging. HRH and I are even thinking about staying downtown.
Maybe L will send us a coupon code.
