I say let YoDaddyO and tacman drive the date since they're the locals and we obviously hope to have them there. Especially since YoDaddyO has volunteered his crib for target practice.

I'm in.  I agree with WIML that the official date revolves on both YoDaddyO's & tacman's availability. I should be able to manuever my schedule accordingly to match the preferred date by the majority.

peticblanc:  I hope that Ronnie & you can join us as well!

Here's a couple of early wine declarations that I'm committing:

2009 Kongsgaard Chardonnay The Judge (looking forward to sharing this one since it will be my first exposure to "The Judge")

1977 Gould Campbell Porto Vintage (this one is one of my 2011 Fantasy Football winnings, courtesy of petitblac)

Preliminarily i would say that the May 18th - 19th would work great

I'll reach out to Tacman via pm and see what works for him

On Saturday i was thinking of doing a catered event at my home or starting here and then going to possibly Hudson on the Bend (if they would be open to it)...I'm sure that Tacman is more plugged in than I in the wine and food scene here locally and he might have better destination suggestions as well as Friday ideas.

Ball is in tacman's court. Sounds like right now we're leaning heavily towards May 18th & 19th in Austin. Agreed? Quorum?

OK GG, YoDaddy, oski, tac, et all....next date that works for everybody?

btw, if 5/5 works for everybody then by all means roll with it. My trip isn't certain and if it becomes certain I guess I'll just miss it.

For whatever it is worth, and that's not much since I have had to miss the last couple of events, the April dates are better for me.  First week in May is a conference and then the Bordeaux trip third week.  However, since I missed the last couple of events do what you guys need to do.  If I can make it I will.

I am doubtful for that weekend as it is the Byron Nelson Tournament, which is a major corporate entertainment event up in these parts.

We are highly unlikely to get everyone's schedules in perfect alignment. Let's pick a date and those than can make it will and those that can't will not. It is more up to the host(s) than anyone else if we are to have it in Austin.

I think you meant "unlikely" ... ?
I would defer to Mr. DaddyO for picking a hard date, as he is graciously opening up his home.
Between HdR, fund-raising/charity commitments in NYC, and a couple of weekends on call I will do my best to trade time.  It may well be that I can only make one evening.  Forge ahead.

Not really, my work schedule has increased exponentially in the last year, which by the way is a good thing monetarily, however it makes it difficult to schedule anything too far in advance.  As I said, if I can I will, if I can't I won't.

Just make certain GG comes by and picks up his Beaucastel I've harbored this last year :-)   Besides I don't have anything in my cellar worthy of this group........

Enthusiasm building...

Sounds like we have a date!

Tacman...i know your schedule is pretty packed, but let me know if you have any thoughts on an evening destination given your experience here in Austin.

My brain is bubbling over...and i need to make a few phone calls as i have an idea for possibly both nights.

There are a couple of lodging areas: Downtown, The Arboretum/Domain area and Barton Creek/Lakeway resorts...each has their own appeal, cost and such.

Let me do some dining destination research...I also would like to reach out to Barton Creek and Lakeway to see if we can secure discounted accomodation rates (these are great hill country destinations).

Also...How would folks feel about a shuttle bus transport? One of my ideas (if it comes together) would make this a very good idea for the group for convenience, timing and peace of mind.

Just begining to formulate ideas without committing

Oh...and the wine i have in mind as well...next post...

Any idea on the size you want to limit this too. We need to get a list of who is committed and who is on a waiting list in case we have many more folks signing up.

While i'm not as experienced in the aged or european wine category as some of you guys...my offerings may be a bit younger with one or two being a wild card..

2006 Bond Estates St. Eden (magnum)
1998 Opus One (3.0L)
2008 Schafer-Fruhlich Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Spatlese (magnum)
2004 Torbreck Run Rig
2005 Darioush II

I'll also have quantities of my 2007 Oakville Cab that many of you tasted two years ago...we'll taste that next to the 2008 and then i want to have you taste the 2008 Legacy Cabernet (Coombsville)

...must...think...about...getting...back...to...work...

If i recall San Antonio had about a dozen couples each night with some adds and some subtracts...what do you guys think works?

Also...what price consideration should we consider for dining? (ranging from moderate to back up the truck)

I am +1 with the spouse and would like to include an additional couple that i would like to introduce to the group on one evening that is always very generous with his selections at events like this (no guarantee he can make it but he is a neighbor)
