Not sure what else I'll be brining, but will throw out there a 1995 Beringer Vineyards Private Reserve.  Since there are a few Beringer's on the table now, is this the start of an underground vertical?

By my count we currently have 1987, 1995, and 1997 Beringer's declared.

By my count we also have 1974, 1994, and 1995 Robert Mondavi Private Reserve.  Maybe a mini-vertical-off?

It would be awesome if we could figure out how to serve them single blind. I could also contribute additional older Beringers and Mondavis

I'm feeling rather inadequate, I have nothing older than '96 in my cellar. Not to say I don't appreciate the older vintages, I just don't have any.

Nothing wrong with younger wine. They will add to the contrast over the weekend

Really like this idea. I am also sitting on some 80's cabs or Beringer or Mondavi's we could add to the mix.

In the category of 80's Calif cabs, I have a Dunn Napa 1984. I have a few others as well but they are large format bottles that may be a bit much since we always end up with way too much wine.

And another direction (in light of my previous Gruaud Larose 1986 declaration), could be a 1980's Cali Cab vs 1980's Bordeaux afternoon tasting.

last several times we have had a separate breakout with a common thread ( afraid to use the word theme again ). Mondavi / QC / Insignia / Pontet Canet verticles come to mind.
Having one along these lines that is blind seems like it would be fun to me.

Ridiculously good covers the rest of the weekend.

I suppose I could bring the 1996 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, too
and, I could bring a 2002 Beringer PR Cabernet Sauvignon. I prolly would not bring the 95 Sullivan (too much juice)

I've heard enough of that talk. Hush your mouth!

Just for that, I'm declaring one more (i.e. blame Oskiwawa for the To-Kalon since I promised him that I would bring it to our next offline):

1997 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve To-Kalon Vineyard

FYI, Marcela (my better half) has already backed-out of the evening tastings, so not sure why you have not yet been promoted to the attendees list...

It is definitely making an appearance. It should be drinking very well right now, maybe even a little young.

I've started some inquiries...

I've reached out PM to Tacman to chat and get his thoughts.

I had already received permission from the boss to host and now i have my honey do list for the next year.

Places to stay I strongly recommend...

Barton Creek Resort

Lakeway Resort & Spa

If you really want to back up the truck...this place is often rated as one of the top 5 spas in the country...ain't cheap tho'...on the other hand it could be a great day destination for any significant other and it's down the street from my home
Lake Austin Spa

I have two personal relationship restaraunts that i am looking into:

Verdes...more of a mexican/southwestern fusion...read the menu you will understand what i mean.

Hudson on the Bend...absolute awesome!

...i am also researching the prospect of a catered evening on a Hill Country Ranch in Dripping Springs (Barton Creek meanders for 1.5 miles through the ranch) replete with turkey, deer and a couple of resident Longhorns. (just an idea...let me know your thoughts...if you like then i have to pull it off)

Finally...here in the Hill Country there is nothing that is inherently "convenient" from a driving standpoint and i wanted to get a quote on a limo bus service that might handle at least Saturday should we have the kick off at my home followed by dinner somewhere else. If we do the Ranch catered evening then we will probably also want to consider that as well.

Let me know if you think i'm going overboard on anything...I'm pumped!

Regarding attendance....most of the places i have in mind do not have significant size constraints for party's around 20...I think if the two guys currently on the waitlist can be flex we might be able to confirm the ease of adding two more or someone may not be able to attend as well...with a group this large it will be evident that there will probably be wines you miss out on vs. others i would guess. I would defer to the wisdom of the group regarding size of attendance.

There does not appear to be any availability at the Barton Resort 18-20 May.

my recomendation would be to stick to 20 ( who drink wine ) so that everyone gets a taste of each wine. This is what we had in Madison and it was pretty much the max one could pull off. I am sure we will have a couple drop out before we get to the date so that those on the current waitlist can have a chance to move up.

You guys just need to quit declaring all of these old 750s from California and start declaring some magnums instead.

I just saw this, and could not agree more. 20 people and a 25.4oz bottle doesn't sound terribly interesting to me. Sorry.

I reserve the right to withdraw any/all previous 750's (who knows, they just might show up, anyway) and hereby declare:

2007 Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Châteauneuf-du-Pape x 1.5L
2002 Flora Springs Trilogy x 3.0L
