Because of this thread I had a peruse of my iPod to see what else I have been listen to of late.

Random stuff. I've knocked out the house music which no one will know and stuck to non dance music.

Soul Coughing - Ruby Vroom.... A very weird album and one of my favourites. Especially screenwriter blues.
Blue lines by massive attack .....
kick by INXS
Rage against the machine.....because obviously being a 42 year old employed in the banking sector this is my pathetic attempt at redeeming my soul

Paul, have you heard the Behling and Simpson remix of the Faith Evans track "Love Like This"? I think it's pretty good, and it might be up your alley:
Faith Evans - "Love Like This" (B & S remix)

LOL!

FWIW, and I'm not sure if this makes a difference or not, although it is a link to Youtube, it's just the song --- the "video" is just a pic. of the vinyl record the entire time --- i.e.: no real video.

Rage...heh. I was never angry enough to be into them, but I had friends who were. Tom Morello can play, though. Good to see some other favs above: Radiohead, Fleet Foxes, Sufjan, Mountain Goats, etc.

Some of my listening earlier today: Avett Brothers - Emotionalism, St. Vincent - Strange Mercy, a few others not worth mentioning.

D1: Nikka Costa - "From a Pebble to a Pearl" (an inexplicably not popular jazz/pop/blues/soul female vocalist; incredibly talented)

D2: Cormega - "The Realness" (NYC rap artist; never got as popular as many (apparently) predicted he would; pretty smooth flow; good production)

D3: Fiona Apple - "Tidal" (I burned this from somebody, at some point; I put it in the player because I actually have no idea what it's like; I'm expecting something on the relaxing side(?))

D4: Mos Def - "The Ecstatic" (hip-hop; most recent studio album by Mos Def; in some ways, a return to form for him, after a massively disappointing "True Magic")

D5: Ozzy Osbourne - "No More Tears" (it's been awhile since I've listened to this (probably a few years), so in the player it went)

Son made me an awesome Fathers Day CD that includes My Chemical Romance, Eminem, Tupac, Kanon(sp?), and others. Loving driving up to these Napa wineries with a little Tupac blasting. lol

George Micheal - Listen Without Prejudice (found it in the car and found it was actually pretty decent)

I can't believe I admitted to that.

Mitigating circumstances - it is my wife's CD and it was the only CD in the car that was not kids songs.

Excuses excuses......i'm not buying it!

Rarely listen to music at home, even tho the stereo is fun. I listen to music mostly in my car, and i'm a fan of the classic alternative guitar driven stuff. My top 5-6 CD's i've been listening too lately.

1. Everclear - Invisible Stars
2. Peter Murphy - Ninth
3. Keane - Strangeland
4. Coldplay - Zyloto Mylibido
5. Green Day - American Idiot
6. Weezer mix....

Currently listening to Neil's "Old Man"... The irony isn't lost and the picking is so appreciated!

Wow, feeling my age, I don't recoginize a single one of those artists; I still listen to "classic rock" from the 60's, 70's, & 80's primarily. Haven't bought a new CD in years, finally got an Ipod last Xmas, but it is still the old rock & roll I download and listen to.

Today:
D1: Red Hot Chili Peppers – One Hot Minute

D2: Talvin Singh – OK (atmospheric drum n' bass)

D3: Pantera – 101 Proof Live (fantastic live album by one of my favorite metal bands)

D4: Meshuggah - Obzen (very heavy, and technical, metal band from Sweden; unbelievably good)

D5: Squarepusher – Feed Me Weird Things (drill n' bass; similar to Aphex Twin, in many regards)

It's not at all about age. It's about finding good new music, and there's a TON of it right now. I have a lot of friends that really believe in "rock is dead." I tell them, "you're just not looking hard enough." I, too, listen to classic rock -- The Band, Grateful Dead, Rush, Clapton, Allmans, etc. But it's a big big world out there!

We just got home from our Lake Don Pedro/Napa trip. For the first day on the boat, it was mp3 playlists of the usual classic rock/soul R&B/90's alternative/lounge lizard jazz/old school gangsta rap/Don Fanucci, etc, etc but for the remaining 4 days, we went with Sirius ch75 Pops Classical. Just seemed the right thing to do. Never tired of it all the way back down the I5 and it got me to thinking about scouring my CD storage for the measly 30-40 classical discs I have and put them into the rotation.

Anyone remember Deutsche Grammophon? Need to dust off the Stanton cartridge for those

Funny thing. I rarely buy a case of wine and a rarely buy a full album. But I do listen to and buy a lot of music. I also regularly swap with 3-4 people with entirely different tastes which allows me to try artists I might not have tried otherwise. At work, however, I usually have either Metropolitan Opera radio on on 1st Wave with Madison. I did buy Linkin Park's new album.
