Please cast a vote *only if* you plan on participating in this year's CT SS (Secret Santa).

The poll question is: Should there be any kind of "eligibility requirement" for participation in CT SS?"

This question is being discussed in this thread here.

Based on the conversation in that thread, it appears we've reduced the question to two possible answers, and it is those two answers that comprise the poll options in this thread:
1. The "No" option means anyone can participate, regardless of when they joined the forum. This means that someone who joins the forum *after* the official CT SS 2012 thread is started will be allowed to participate in this year's CT SS, provided they sign-up for the CT SS event by the stated deadline (which still has not been announced, btw).

2. The "Yes - must join CT forum *before* the CT SS 2012 thread is started" option means that anyone who joins the CT forum (not the CT main site) before the official CT SS 2012 thread is started will be allowed to participate in this year's CT SS, provided they sign-up for the CT SS event by the stated deadline, but those who join the forum *after* the official CT SS 2012 thread is started will have to wait until next year to participate in CT SS 2013.

Thank you for voting.

Well, so far I'm the only "No". When I was head elf someone joined the CT forum and their first post was "in" for CT SS. They since have become an active and contributing member of the forum, at off lines, and is making his own hooch now in Dallas.

Not sure really what the purpose is of creating ANY eligibility requirement. We've never had anyone reneg on their commitment in 3 years and over 200 participants.

Whoops! I voted no because I usually will not join any club that would have me as a member... But I really do think a participant in SS12 should be a card carrying CTer before they sign up. After all, membership has its privileges...

Since I do not think that many foks jump in at the last moment I am ok with either answer. That said, it is nice to either send to or receive from someone whose CT ID you have seen for awhile but never met. Speaking of that, is the CT Texas crowd going to be allowed to sit at the adult table this year and share with everyone else ?

To your last point; part of the "required initial disclosures" this year will be telling the Head Elf if you are, or are not, willing to take on the additional risk of shipping into TX and also if you are, or are not, willing to have your Secret Santa be from TX.

So, "Yeah," TX participants will not necessarily be swapping with other TX participants (random draw, however, might make it such that a TX resident does buy or receive from another TX resident).

It is a whole other part of this country. I think it is because Texas was an independent country born from an insurrection. Not many states are prouder of their state than Texans. I was not born here but after living here 23 years, I guess I am close to a Texan.

I vote no restrictions

The TX thing is not up to a vote. Each individual person will let the Head Elf know if they are comfortable dealing with the extra risks attendant to shipping into and out of TX.

I'll have to go back to last year's discussion to find out the details. Basically, "the authorities" are much more watchful re: shipment of alcohol out of and into the state, and the laws are enforced more strictly than other states. So, basically, trying to ship wine out of TX is much more difficult than trying to ship wine within TX; and, trying to ship wine into TX is much more difficult (or more likely to get confiscated) than shipping wine into other states. That's the basic gist of it, as I remember it. Maybe one of our TX forum members can fill us in on the details.

I voted for option 2, just to make it easier for the head elves to coordinate. There hasn't been an official posting yet for the CT SS or does this count?

If your lurking, please sound off on the active user forum and just say "Hi!"

Nope. The Official thread will have the word "official" in it, and will contain the Marching Orders re: signing-up.

We don't need no stinkin' papers!

I haven't voted one way or the other - I really don't have a stance on this.
But - it is nice to kinda know a little about who you've drawn by their previous posts.

If those who have a TX SS REALLY can't figure out how to ship here than my uncle Guido can take care of all your shipping needs.  He's a Yankee of course but via Scicila if you catch my drift.  Of course at a cost.  You can't expect uncle Guido to work for nothing can you?

I have never known anyone who has had a bottle confiscated or inspected.  What Texas did was go after the retailers that were shipping into this state.  Private individuals get no more scrutiny than they do in Georgia, Florida or any other state that has rules against shipping wine directly to consumers.

I'm actually curious whether this is referencing me? Didn't realize that my first post was an "in" for secret santa, but I wouldn't put it past me I suppose! I have no real preference on the SS vote, and am just happy it goes on year-after-year. Fun, fun times!
