Bit on the 013 La Rata offer today. Asked for 6, we'll see what happens.

I asked for 3 because I'm on a "Wine Diet".

Skipped Rata because I went for 3 of the Block Wines Boushey Grenache the day before. My first wine purchase, except for a couple of club obligations, in about 6 months.

I still have the 2012 Rata pending pick up at DP's place, along with about 16 other bottles. Less than 2 cases in 18 months is certainly a record for me since DP opened shop, but I suspect others have picked up my slack as his business seems to be doing well, more employees, more space, etc.. DP seems to be the anchor of the newest wine hub in Seattle in SODO. I need to get over there now that 3-4 new tasting rooms, have opened.

only 1 La Rata for me as I only asked for 1 last year. My single bottle vertical may start now!

It's nice having Rotie on this side; I stop in occasionly on the way home from work for a quick taste.

jrockman,

If you're asking about Den Hoed in general (and not specifically the 2012 vintage) I can tell you that I personally favored the "Andreas" over the "Marie's View", though admittedly I tried them from different vintages, and haven't had any recent vintages.

A 2007 "Andreas" was an excellent and memorable WA Cab, elegant with delicious cassis and well-integrated graphite/pencil shaving notes to go along with a great texture. The 2006 "Marie's View" was just OK for me, and not likely to be a repeat purchase, but perhaps the vintage was more the culprit than the other aspects. I know now different winemakers are utilized, but I believe the Marie's View also had less Cabernet Sauvignon back then.

Has Damn Paul been kind of slack lately or has this thread just lost its mojo? Almost a year without a post.

I'm drinking a lot more OR Pinot and Syrah these days and pick up locally. Bought some Loire, Savoie & Rousillon lately. A lot of WA Reds are too jammy for my tastes now.

Dunno. He has been one of my few sources of new wines this year, but I've only bought 16 bottles, all repeats of favorites or value wines. I've visited his place a time or two this year and it has been as busy as ever, if not more so. My guess is it's just not new and shiny or exciting offers anymore, but his business is chugging along. Just my guess...

I think you are correct, Chris in that his offers are not exciting anymore. I have not purchased from him since 2015 when I realized a lot of my purchases were turning to daily drinkers, the shipping was killing me at that level.

Ah, the advantages of being local and able to pick up.

Still buy occasionally, but way down from what it once was, largely due to have the collection at the size I want (read: what fits into the off-site) and keeping it stable.

Both Paul and Jeff relate to me as well. I would buy a lot more from FP and Garagiste if I were local Seattle area. Both Sec and Vinopolils work for the local OR and French wines I buy.

And then there's Proper...

We were attending local vineyard event a few weeks ago where the owners of SJR and Delmas were visiting their friends event. I had a very informative discussion with them after an intro lead to that they were CA transplants to WW, had sold their CA vineyard and invested the proceeds in The Rocks Region. I felt like a kid in a candy store chatting about wine and grape growing.

I did order some Proper.

FP works well for me because I drive into the SODO area every Thursday anyway.
His prices are generally the same as buying directly from the winery, but I've found that there are some wines that I prefer to buy from Paul because I do not have to pay any shipping, whereas when I buy direct from the winery, I do.

I buy most of my WA reds from FP and the shipping is for me is cheaper from Seattle than the winery. Just the wait time limits what I want to buy for delayed consumption. I emailed to ship just prior to the June hot weather or I would have had to wait until October. I use TPU pricing and can accumulate a full case for shipping.

I have been very selective about buying from Full Pull after some of my original value choices back in 2013 were very disappointing. So 4 bottles in 2015, 2 in 2016, and zero in 2017.

In general I would rather buy my Washington wine from the winery, would rather see more of my money go to the winemaker and less to the salesman. I can appreciate how people would want to keep shipping costs low however.

Edit: Realizing how little I buy, dropped off the mailing list all together.

I purchased the 2012 & 2013 but have only actually had the 2012 so far. I enjoyed the 2012 immensely. Others appear to like it, as well. TNs for the 2012 are here.

I'll add that I submitted the max request for 6 again this year; I'll be happy if I get two (as I did with the prior two vintages).

Purchased two 2013s and opened one at our Seattle offline last May... as I recall it was quite tasty.
