I skipped right over that because the CT avg price paid was so far below the $45 FP had listed. However, the price on the website matches so they're probably right.

I pulled out my Vinous app, did a search for 2017 Yamhill and then rolled down to match the score. Given the age of winery and winemaker clues I figured the Panther Creek, and a check of their website gave the soil info to match.
In for three.

Anyone have a clue on today’s Redacted 24? It is a 2016 Bordeaux blend, previously offered in an earlier voyage as a Redacted. List price $24 selling for $12. Wine is a bl me of Upland for the Cab, Dineen for the Cab Franc and a third unnamed vineyard.

Agreed. Price point and vineyards match. Also long history of Full Pull selling Pomum and Idilico wines. Unnamed vineyard, now Pomum estate is Konnowac Vineyard.

Winery has moved on to selling the 2017 version, described on their web site...

"Each year Pomum only produces two wines from Bordeaux varieties, our Red Wine and Shya Red. Both of these are now heavily sourced from Konnowac Vineyard which we just recently acquired in April 2019. Our Red Wine is the “second” wine of the winery and showcases the red fruit and herbal characteristics of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon from our sites in the Yakima Valley. Upland Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and Dineen Vineyard Cabernet Franc anchor the blend and are complemented with additional Cabernet, Merlot and Petit Verdot from Konnowac Vineyard. 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot. "

I've drank them long ago, and preferred the Spanish varieties which have lingered in my cellar, Tempranillo including their top end Tinto, to the Bordeaux blends. CT says I still have a 2009 Tinto... Hmm. Nothing offensive and well made wines but didn't stand out to me. At $12, probably worth a flyer if I had any room.

I don't have enough memory of it to give a comparable on the Bordeaux blend, but vineyards are solid, and 14.5 ABV says not overly ripe/extracted for Yakima fruit.

Agree with CinC about their Spanish varieties under Idilico label - Monastrell and Garnacha are appealing, Graciano is a rarity in Wa and they do one of the best port types in the state using graciano as well
Their albarino is solid value, nice acidity

Redacted 26 - I'm pretty sure it is 2018 Two Vintners Some Days Are Diamonds Syrah - Discovery Vineyard (H3). So Morgan Lee (also of Covington, and Full Pull Block Wines).

Seems like the retail price is too low for Andrew Will. Maybe Cadence or Soos Creek?

Edit: I actually think it is the Tamarack Reserve.

I pondered Soos Creek, Cadence, Andrew Will, Seven Hills, but Tamarack looks like best fit to me. The timing and previous FP offers line up, and Tamarack sold a few years ago, https://www.washingtontastingroom.com/news/walla-wallas-tamarack-cellars-sells-to-vintage-wine-estates . I thought I read that the vineyard designates would not be a part of Tamarack going forward, but anything still laying around from 2016 vintage would want to get moved anyway and anybody still having that vintage would be in same boat 4-5 years later.

Always really loved the Tamarack DuBrul, but can't remember anything special about their CdC. Pass for me.

Any thoughts on today's Redacted 2017 Merlot? I did a bit of sleuthing old offers with no luck, but at $12/bottle vs. ~$32 list price seems almost a no-brainer if you like WA Merlot. My sis-in-law loves the stuff, and we drink a lot when she is around, so this might be her Christmas present.

Ding, ding, ding, We have a winner! Welcome ljop!

The 2013 offered in mid 2017...

quote:

2013 Two Vintners Merlot - $29.99 (TPU $26.99)

Morgan Lee took home two awards for Two Vintners this year, seriously impressive in a blind, multi-judge setting. His Columbia Valley Syrah (which we’ve offered; and reoffered) won Best Syrah, $25 or less, and this Merlot (which we’ve never previously offered), won Best Merlot, more than $25, despite being one of the very least expensive Merlots tasted in the category. You might describe how we feel about Morgan Lee as a “friend crush.” It started out innocently enough—he’s always made beautiful wines for Covington Cellars and Two Vintners and we became fans. Then we found out, we really liked him as a person. He’s equal parts talented winemaker and the kind of guy you’d like to have a beer with. Things became more serious when we publicly expressed our feelings for Morgan. We asked him to make wine with us—and now he is responsible for the majority of the Block Wines label. Morgan is not so new to the scene—Two Vintners was founded in 2007—but he does represent the wildly talented, boundary-pushing new watch of Washington vintners.

Seattle Magazine: Woodinville-based Morgan Lee was named Winemaker to Watch in last year’s version of these awards, and that honor is confirmed by this beautiful Merlot, the backbone of which comes from the outstanding Pepper Bridge Vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley. It’s noteworthy for its tannic structure, which adds finishing chew and espressoey goodness to a wine replete with smoke-inflected black fruit. Pairs with: A grass-fed New York strip steak.

The 2014 offered in late 2018. price points and everything else matches.

quote:

2014 Two Vintners Merlot Columbia Valley - $31.99 (TPU $19.99)
Jeb Dunnuck: “($32); These Two Vintners wines, made by Morgan Lee, continue to knock it out of the park. These are ripe, opulent, sexy wines that deliver tons of fruit, yet stays balanced and light on the palate. Count me in as a fan. The 2014 Merlot, which includes 5% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, sports a deep ruby/purple color as well as a great bouquet of plums, black cherries, tobacco, and graphite. This full-bodied, spicy, opulent, sexy beauty has no hard edges, a mouthfilling texture and a great finish. It's no lightweight (15.2% alcohol) but is beautifully balanced, supple, and just impossible to resist. Drink it over the coming 5-6 years. Drink 2018-2023. 92pts.”

The story here is much the same. Morgan’s breadth of contacts across the state pays wonderful dividends here. The Merlot portion is one-third each Sheridan (Yakima Valley), Stonetree (Wahluke Slope), and Pepper Bridge (Walla Walla Valley); rounded out with 5% Kiona PV (Red Mountain) and 5% Dineen Cab Franc (also Yak). The expressive nose combines deep black cherry fruit, loamy soil, and café au lait. In the mouth this is unabashedly delicious, offering a supple attack and plump mid-palate. Fine-grained tannins appear on the finish, offering lovely leafy chew as a finishing note. This would be just the pairing for a medium-rare cheeseburger slathered with redeye mayo.

I have enjoyed every II, Covington, Block, City Limits… wine that I've tried and there have been dozens probably, particularly under the Block program where I have loaded up. We just drank a City Limits Roussanne and Barbilocks asked if I could buy more. (Spousal Exemption claimed!)

In for a case on this Merlot. Congrats ljop you are officially a CT Enabler. Your certificate is in the mail.

Today's redacted 2016 Dineen Cab matches this one...

quote:

2012 Nota Bene Cabernet Sauvignon Dineen Vineyard - $27.99 (TPU $24.99)

We have a terrific tariff on this wine, which was released at $35. Dineen is an outstanding Cabernet Vineyard, but we haven’t had many chances to offer Dineen Cabs over the years. I can think of Stevens XY Reserve, and that’s about it.

Tim pulls from Catherine’s Block, prime real estate in the vineyard. That block’s rows run over the crest of the Dineen hill, where the soil is extremely shallow and rocky, giving natural yields of tiny, concentrated berries. Perfect for Cabernet. The fruit was aged for 22 months in a mix of French and American oak, 25% new. Overall production: a mere 100 cases, and this clocks in at 14.0% listed alc. The nose is perfumed, fragrant, offering cherry blossoms and rose petals over a core of red plum and redcurrant fruit, with good soil-driven earth tones. The palate continues the theme, with lovely inner-mouth perfume and a seamless, perfectly-weighted texture. This has just enough sneaky back-end chew – the toothsome tannins redolent of green tea – to remind you that it’s Cabernet, and the mouthfeel overall speaks to polish and class, to excellent fruit sourcing, and to an experienced winemaker at the helm. This is a fine expression of a special piece of Yakima Valley terroir.
