Based on very unscientific observation at my local, I've just noticed that tequila is gaining ground from a shelf space (as a proxy for market share) perspective, although it seems to be at the cost of brandy and cognac, not the American whiskeys, which have increased dramatically over time. Probably worth mentioning that Tequila is about to enter a shortage crisis. Demand is out-pacing supply and, unfortunately, there is little to nothing that can be done (Jalisco only has so much room for growing agave). Fine tequila is easily as enjoyable as any whiskey...if you like Tequila (I do).
