There is some really horrible wine out there.

You honestly couldn't tell that the Lease-Fitch was cabernet sauvignon.

Just generic "wine".

Went through cases of that on Olsen close out sale. Not sure if it is the same wine now, but same wine maker.

2011 Emiliana Cabernet Sauvignon Signos de Origen
https://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=1957384

A very nice, pure and clean Cab, not overripe or sweetish, subtle oak.

Bought for €9 in the Netherlands, normal price €12.

Good to see more restraint in style coming from Chile.

Sounds like some of the Trader Joe's wines in California. I've had the Pinot and Merlot and I would have NEVER guessed what grape it was. Actually I could have probably guessed by process of elimination but it's complete swill. Life is way too short to drink that junk.

Had two glasses of the 2016 Henri Gaillard Cotes de Provence Rose at a local restaurant in Sanibel. Really outstanding value at $13/bottle. The wine has a lovely, lightly perfumed nose of rose petals and orange peel, and then a mid-weight dry mouthfeel, with the fruit ripe but not to the point where the wine would start to seem at all sweet. Nice mineral support on the finish. It reminds me of the Rose de Castel from Israel, an outstanding rose, but easily 2x more. Not quite at the level of the Mordoree Tavel lineup, but close.

2002 Miner Family Petite Sirah (Napa), $15 on secondary market. Big wine, and surprisingly youthful. Lots of fruit and oak. Silky texture. Heaps of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Would drink again when in the mood for such a massive and oaky wine.

Chateau Nicot Bdx 2015 $12.99

Silky and with a little bit of grassy green herbs. Not sophisticated but hit all the pleasure points.

2011 Château de Carles, Fronsac, $14, great QPR on this one. CT community average of 90.6 and it deserves it.

We've been having really good luck recently with Spanish / Rioja (generally crianza or even reserva) from our local grocery store Central Market. Generally pop a bottle and sip as we shop. All wines are in the $12 - $17 range, and generally have been very tasty and a good QPR.

A few recent budget bottles worthy of adding to the list (all found on various sales/markdowns; your local prices may vary):

2012 Ebner-Ebenauer St. Laurent Alte Reben
2013 Famille Perrin / Perrin & Fils Vinsobres Les Cornuds
2013 Et Fille Pinot Noir Willamette Valley

Ok so I rarely buy wines in this price range BUT...2015 Tinazzi CA di Rocchi Corve for $14.99 ata local retailer. Italian Veneto Corvina and I wanted to try because I've never had a 100% Corvina. Very surprised but enjoyed it. Think Baby Ripassa. Similar earthy nose & taste but for much less. It's not a really extracted wine but simple with lots of Italia "terroir" elements at a great price.

Eddie, OK you're right, in NYC probably no one would care but in KY you would definitely be arrested.

I grew up in the deep south where there are open container laws. You could ride around with a cocktail in your "go cup". I don't think KY is that kind of scene.

You must shop there during the week, weekends are insane at Central Market. Everyone runs around with their carts like they drive on the highway. I even hesitate opening a water bottle that I haven't purchased let alone wine, but they do have the restaurant there so as long as you don't leave the premises. Do you think the playground/outdoor patio is still on the premises?

2009 Ste. Chapelle Soft White. Picked it up for $3 on a discount shelf. Fools, it's fantastic. Worth more than the original asking price.

As usual, we've been hanging out in this price range fairly regularly. Most satisfying of late:

2015 Château Coudray Montpensier Chinon Le Grand Bouqueteau Reserve ($13 at Costco)
2015 Château de Javernand Chiroubles Vieilles Vignes ($13)
2005 Taron Rioja Reserva (surprisingly satisfying for $6 at Grocery Outlet)
