This first post will serve as the master list for this group, so refer back to it often! After each person’s name I will post what wine he/she received, once it’s been revealed. Whenever someone correctly guesses their Santa, I will put a strikethrough line through the Santa’s name, like so. So, if a name is crossed out on the list above, then that person has already been identified as someone’s Santa. We’ll keep goin’ until everyone’s been identified!

I know not everyone plays the guessing game with the same level of gusto, and that is fine. However, everyone should, at a minimum, do the following:

- Post what you received
- Say thank you!
- Make at least a guess or two, if you are so moved (although you should feel free to take some time to sleuth about first)
- If you decide to drink your wine right away, feel free to post a tasting note and/or story
- Have fun!
- Important: if someone guesses you as their Santa, please post whether or not they’re right. This means that even if you are not following the thread very closely, you should at least check in periodically and scan the posts to see if someone’s guessed you. As Head Elf, I reserve the right to post your answer for you if enough time goes by and you are just leaving somebody hanging. I doubt I will have to do this, but just be aware that a minimum amount of participation from everyone is needed to keep the game moving along and fun for all.

Don’t forget that you can ask your Santa for a hint if you are stuck! Santas can also provide a hint if they like, although you may want to wait until your recipient specifically asks, so as not to spoil it for someone who likes a challenge. Mysterious statements cloaked in subterfuge are always a source of amusement...

One last note: the posts move fast and furious in this event, especially at the beginning when everyone is revealing their wines and starting to make guesses. So, at least for the time being, we ask that you please post only in your own group’s thread - it helps keep the traffic at a manageable level. Feel free to follow both threads, of course! Depending on the amount of traffic, we may relax this rule – I mean, I like fun banter as much as the next guy.

That’s it! So, without further ado, start ripping open them packages and tell us what you got! Have fun and Happy Secret Santa to all!

Wow !! Thrilled with this one

2006 Tenute Silvio Nardi Brunello di Montalcino Vigneto Manachiara

We have a really weak availability to decent Italian wines here so this is a really appreciated addition to the cellar.

Sleuthing is going to be either easy this time or really hard. Shipping address on the box is from Long Branch NJ. Quick google maps on that shows it is near Exit 105 on the New Jersey Parkway.

Exit 105, are you my Secret Santa ?

I will also throw out some hints for my recipient because it would be very hard to guess on its own ( that is the first clue ). I do not have this wine in my cellar but would love to. If I could get it, I would buy 4. One to try now for fun and the other 3 to drink in 15 years or so

What do we have here ...
2013 Clos de la Coulée de Serrant

I don't know this wine at all and will have to do some research. I have recently become intrigued by the Loire.

Well Oskiwawa I guess the return address oversight gave you the only clue you needed. I did notice your cellar was underrepresented with Italian wine so I hope you enjoy this wonderful Brunello. As you probably know, 2006 was a stellar vintage for Brunello so you can let the bottle rest for a number of years or enjoy now with a lengthy decant.

By the way, spent NYE last year at the Four Seasons in Austin for a family wedding. Had a great time in the city - especially the fried chicken at Max's Wine Dive.

As for my SS, I received a great bottle of 2013 Martinelli Moonshine Ranch Pinot Noir. My cellar is light on Pinot so I was hoping my SS sent one they were fond of, which they thankfully did. My sleuthing expedition leads me to mcsac67. Are you my SS?

Well my Santa's clues so far appear to be:
1. That they are from Southern California; if the shipping label is to be trusted.
2. That they have never had the wine; if their note is to be trusted.

Trust may be hard to come by in the bad Santa group... but then if there can be trust among thieves we should be able to manage.

The wine is a 2011 Lillian Syrah. Based on this I would deduce that my Santa did a good job figuring me out or got lucky .
My cellar is heavy on Washington Syrah and California Pinot. Previously I declared that I was trying to figure out Oregon pinot. My most prized wine is a 2007 Sine Qua Non pictures that I bought on a 40th birthday trip to Napa.

The Lillian Syrah is from Santa Barbara California vineyards, from an Oregon pinot producer, who worked with Manfred Krankel at Sine Qua Non for eight years.

So dear Santa… you are not so bad. Thank you for the lovely wine. I am very much looking forward to trying it and will rack it in my display racking until it is time to pop the cork.

With Kind Regards,
Matt West

PS-I am now going to begin researching my Santa's identity.

Based on the note, we have at least 12 years to figure this out. Hubby has been stewing on it and finally put it down to cogitate on it for a bit. I'm sitting with it in my lap willing the solution to come to me .

OK... time to open, wife and kids standing by... What is it? What is it.... Nice!!

2006 Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, Very happy with this choice.

My parents love Amarone's , for me this is definitely something out of my wheel house , very much looking to crack this one open. I may actually have this with our Christmas Eve dinner. My wives grandparents are from Sicily and they have 4 generation pasta gravy recipe that was passed down to us 25 years ago, this will pair very well with that. YUM

Thank you Secret Santa! Now to start figuring out whom you are!

It is revealed, but is it opened? From what I know, I don't think so.

Nice set of tools with the hand drill and bit set, BTW, Mr. BoCron.

Exit 105, thank you very much. You are correct due to a dearth of decent Italian wines available in Texas I am woefully short of these in my cellar. A great addition and one that will really be appreciated. In keeping with our annual tradition, we will be drinking this one tonight with a nice italian dinner Now it is time to figure out what to cook.

And here is a pic of both gifts. The rosé will be gone by 2016! I will be having grilled shrimp for NYE dinner so this will be perfect. I am overwhelmed with gratitude on these great gifts. Now to spend some time trying figure who is the dastardly one .

And the bottle is......

Denner Theresa!

This is a new wine for us. It also came with a note - "Daniel, Thank you for all of your help this past year. Enjoy! Sincerely Karen"

As this was a wine from Zachys and it's prime holiday time, we are deciding to ignore the note and assume it was a packaging mistake. The big hint there was neither of us is named Daniel.

Now - as to the secret santa him/herself... There is no one on this list who has this wine. The wine is from Paso Robles though - if you search ppl who have responded to Paso Robles information requests on the forum you get a few folks... if you look at those who have recommended Denner the number gets smaller still... and then if you look at those on the Bad Santa list you come up with just one person. That same one person has some Denners (although not the Theresa) in his cellar leading us to believe he is indeed a follower of the winery.

So redguy - are you our secret santa?

It was quite obvious from the moment I opened it's page on CT who this was from
...
until ,with one other click, it became quite obvious it could be from someone entirely different!!!

My package came heavily taped, and yet addressed from Full Pull. The label underneath the label came from Goose Ridge (which probably doesn't mean anything...or does it?). In other words, I'm pretty clueless who Secret Santa is based on the box.

There was also a letter from Santa that said:

As you enjoy your bottle of Pinot
Contemplate a paradox of Zeno.
Just finish the bottle by half then half then half,
and infinitely continue this math,
And you'll always be left with some Vino!

Quite telling of the personality of this Santa, which would make me hone in on Santa...if I wasn't so clueless.

Finally, the bottle is the 2010 Scott Paul Audrey Pinot Noir! THANK YOU Santa. Good choice! I have a lot of Oregon pinot as evidenced by my cellar (and not evidenced by the huge amount that I never entered into CT).

So, who is my Secret Santa? No idea. Based on (assumed) location I would say crispino. My second guess (and this is way out there based on an ancient tasting note) would be mclancy10006.

Guessing is not my strength. Consuming bottles is. So, thanks again, Santa. I will be consuming this bottle soon.
