No. Life is a Cabernet.

Syrah smiles.

Lord, I apologize. And be with the little pygmies. Amen.

This is a great idea, extending CTSS as a tribute to Brad, a true original. I'm in, PM sent.

PM sent. I was going to sit this one out, but the change in focus had me and the change in dates made it possible.

Now to find the right tribute wine.

If we're doing tribute wine we may need to up the ante.
I am just now at the point where I can talk about it so I may post in Brad's thread.

The intent was not to change the fundamentals of our gift exchange other than all sending a Cabernet in Brad's honor.

Yes, but to be fully sanctioned by Brad it will need the above edit.

I'll post a redundant post here...

Look guys, it isn't this hard.

Brad personally wasn't one for Bordeaux, but he was one of the most generous souls I've known and would freely share that which he felt you might enjoy. Send a Cabernet dominant wine you think your recipient will enjoy.

This is about sharing a wine you are confident in with a new or old friend that can appreciate your efforts. That is all Brad would want.

Yes, agreed. It wouldn't be fair to those who had signed up with a $50 bottle cost expectation, and I have gotten feedback expressing the same. Of course, as we always point out in the rules, if people WANT to send a more expensive bottle that's certainly allowed.

As Hollowine quite nicely said, "Send a Cabernet dominant wine you think your recipient will enjoy. This is about sharing a wine you are confident in with a new or old friend that can appreciate your efforts. That is all Brad would want." Very nicely put.

Given the change in parameters, do you think it would be fair to allow those who wish to back out the chance to do so?

Sure, the deadline for adding participants is next Friday and we can adjust however needed up until the assignments are distributed. I'd suggest sending a PM to crispino as he is collecting the initial list.

If you are not a cabernet fan, then feel free to take a step back. But, lets not stress out on the wine, this should be fun. The other important factor is honoring a CT friend who was a Napa Cab fan... if your person isn't, then use the general theme of Cab dominated. Don't over think it. Follow Scott's comment above (Hollowine).

Remember it is the Holiday season!!! Peace, joy and love... it is the giving season and let's remember a friend.

We have the capability to provide the elves (and gifts) our preferred or not preferred wines. Instead of someone who happens to hate cabernet get booted out of the SS gifting, can the elves let the buyer of any non-cabber know cabs are not their preferred wine? I like the cab for Brad idea, but to drive folks away from participating in SS is also not preferred (IMHO).

What say ye, elven folk?

Yes, Joe I agree, we'll work it out. We do indeed want to include all in this festive event.

Hi all.

New to the forum, and love this idea (also wish I could have gotten in on the FF league. Next year I guess).
Is SS exclusive to the USA, or can Canadians partake in the festivities? I'm in Halifax Nova Scotia...

Hi Sam, welcome to the forum. No reason Canadians could not be in, as far as I know. Shipping across the border is no big deal.....or is it?

Good to hear from a Haligonian. Have not been there for 10 years. Lived in Nova Scotia for 4 years, 1990-1994, little town of Enfield, one exit north of the Halifax airport on the 102.

Dig that screen name! I used to live off Exit 38, and spent summers as a kid off Exit 36. Now I live within a mile of Exit 3 off the other highway.

Haven't been around the forums as much of late -- admit my legal debacle made me wary -- but glad I checked in today when I though of Secret Santa and that it's not too late. So sad to hear about the loss of one of our own and think it's a brilliant plan to honor a loyal player in our little holiday game. Thanks for letting us join in and for always being a friendly port (or cab) in the wild and wooly Internet world. Cheers!

Chris - point I don't see covered - since the original registration deadline was Fri 11/4 and assignments were going out by Mon 11/7 I am assuming that with registration deadline extension to Fri 11/11 that assignments will go out by Mon 11/14 with the shipping deadline then 2 weeks later Mon 11/28 ?

Ismo - I'm so glad you're joining us this year!

Post #58 says that the shipping deadline will be pushed back to 11/28. I'm assuming - like you - that assignments will be on or around the 14th.

Woot!

(and Eric and Susan are joining us too after some time away! )
