As far as rule changes go:

Blind bids
8 yes's | 6 no's
still to vote: skifree
Abstentions: ern1
** we're still fine either way, but if had to vote will side with blind bids so that person who wants player the most can get them.

Moving from 8 to 10 teams per league
1 yes | 8 no's
Abstentions: atkinson_b2, skifree, mqvn
still to vote: hankj, ern1, GalvezGuy

Changing from Yahoo
so far all seem to want to stick with Yahoo which is good since invites are out for Blanc

So please do vote away for those outstanding.

mqvn/skifree - you guys are up on blind bids and it is close enough that both of your votes matter

Mc2, have the 3 waitlister's accepted their positions in the league?

I believe so. I have confirms from ern1 and Rockincabs and I'm assuming we're good with mqvn although please do speak up if you don't want 'in'.

Mea culpa! Updated the post. I think that means blind bid passes as well.

And I'm taking that as confirmation that you are participating as well so I think we've locked in all of the teams.

For Blanc folks - I've started an e-mail chain to figure out draft timing. Used the e-mail address you provided to join the league. Let me know if there's another you'd prefer via PM.

Okay - WHAT is the deal with the blind bidding waivers??? Who started this?? And why add a complication to something that was working just fine for us for years???

It just sounds to me like more work to decide who to pick up on the Waiver wire...and it seems that many of you are time-pressed during the Season...

Also, did I miss the full explanation of just how this would work?? Could someone do a "copy-paste" for me??

Thanks.

Blind bidding is pretty easy.

From an earlier post:

The way it works in our other league is everyone starts with $100. When you attempt to get a player on waivers, you both choose the player and the amount you are willing to pay (including $0 I believe). Whoever 'pays' the most money for the player gets that player and loses that amount of money. If you don't get the player, you keep whatever you bid. It therefore allows you to assign importance to that new player and for the person who values the player the most to get them.

It gives everyone an equal shot at any new player who pops, doesn't 'punish' players who had a strong draft or are having a strong season by making new breakouts unavailable to them, and adds a bit more strategy. Downside is in our previous system there was an advantage to poor performance and an easier opportunity to turn that around with a strong player or two hitting waiver wire and we've removed that.

Not our suggestions originally, but every year I think we have opened up to proposals of new rules and in the past rules have changed for this league.

If there are folks who didn't understand what it was and want to switch votes, this is not Brexit and we're happy to adjust. Just suggest we lock down in the next week or so.

More questions about blind bidding:

Is the 100$ for the entire season?
Are $0 bids allowed or are we screwed if we spend all of our money too soon?
Do we have to drop a player before add/drops, or after we get our player?
What is the tie-breaking procedure?
Are free agents available immediately after the blind bidding is done each week?

In leagues I've played in before, $0 bids were allowed. Bidding is used only on the waiver wire, not free agents. Just like any other waiver request, if you don't have a roster spot, you'd have to request a waiver and indicate which player you'd drop from your current roster at the same time. And in my past experience, yes, free agents are available after all waivers are processed, just like before.

I don't have an answer to the tie-breaker question, but I'd assume it would be based on the current inverse standings (lower team in the standings gets priority).

Honestly, in the past, it didn't make a huge difference, because the top players in the league are taken in the draft. With an 8 team league, there's plenty of talent out there and not enough roster spots to stash that many players, even with 6 bench slots.

it works like this.

u bid a $ amount.. if you bid 1 and no one bids, u get the person.
if you bid $0, it's just like a waiver request.. it's still in reverse order of standing.

so let's say 3 people bids $0.. or 3 people bid $37.. tie breaker is reverse order of standing.

MC2WINE - Just to confirm, we're picking the FAAB w/ Reverse order of standing as tie breaker option yah?
(there's an option to do FAAB (blind bidding) but with rolling order tie break). but we should use reverse order as tie break i believe.

Yep - that makes sense unless the group was thinking of doing it differently.

Dare I raise... but I think last year the question of whether we should have a 'no cut list' came up. There was a request I think to remove given the 8 team league and lack of IR position. Thoughts? I'm pretty flexible/fine not to change, but noticed it in the settings when I was confirming number of teams.

Is there anyway to add an IR slot or is it too late? Considering the injury rates and short bench I've added one in my other leagues.

I'm usually fine with can't drop list, but if people want to cut it, that's fine too.

not too late to add, and easy to add.

just have to have everyone agree..
i'm indifferent. never played with one and never saw a need b/c if a player has season ending injury (IR) they are able to be released.

but happy to add 1 if everyone wants?

Somehow I lost track of the discussion threads on this, but I think that as of now, Tuesday, 7/25/17, the Draft Date for the Blanc League still needs to be decided.

There were several dates proposed. I think my other half, Blue Shorts sent in my votes, but just in case:

My vote preferences, in order are:

1. September 2nd
2. September 4th
3. Fri Sept 1st

Thanks,

snoop2nutz

True. We've got an e-mail thread going. Your husband already sent them over.

For those who haven't voted, please do.

Someone please educate me, what's the rush to draft many days before the first game? I appreciate the time required to set the starters, but that's fairly minimal. I understand people may be away since it's Labor Day weekend, but...

For me it's because I'm out of country from 9/2-9/20. Prefer to get this out of the way before I fly out. That's all. No other reason to rush :)

I think that it's simply that some people are going out of town. It's reasonable.

My big concern is that if we draft before the final preseason games are played, and a first or second round pick goes down, that team is royally screwed. There is no do-over.

I think most drafts are just done based on scheduling which can be tough with all of the conflicting requirements. More fun to do live than to autodraft.

When possible, have generally tried to do post the preseason games (less because of injury - they tend not to happen for top draft picks in the last game, but more because ppl want more information on how folks are looking... usually by the last preseason game the top prospects aren't playing so much and it's more to understand who your sleepers might be). That being said, even in this league we've drafted before last preseason game in the past to accommodate schedules (feels a bit like beating a dead horse here ).

Berg, Hank - still missing you two for Rouge league.. please join up in the league so we i can set the draft order.

I've made the change to FAAB/reverse standings for tie breaker for Waives (blind bid)

Are we adding injury slot?

I'd be more inclined to just drop the 'can't cut'. Unless folks prefer the IR.

To me these are totally separate issues. I'm fine with whatever people would like to do on the can't cut list. I would like to get the IR slot though. There's guys who start out on IR and come back a few games in or mid-season or people on for a few weeks etc. It's helpful and I like having one.

I'm also fine with an IR slot - lets you add an extra guy to your roster if one of your top picks goes down early without having to drop him or someone else you might need.

IR is fine either way. I'm glad that we are dropping the no-cut list. I know it has affected teams in the past and is not needed in a friendly league.

Mark are we dead set on 9/1 at 6pm PDT for the draft? I'll be in Austria so it will be 3am.

Aren't you and Freelon in Europe at that same time? Regular season starts on the 7th and I'll be back late on the 3rd but I think you guys will still be in France at that time?

I can auto-draft if need be - probably I deserve a shi77y team eventually :)
