This forum gets lots of newbies, not that some vets can't find a nugget or two in here, too. Please don't parse this ala WB, I say plenty of times, it depends, and there is no one-size-fits-all answer. That only applies to buying more than you'll ever be able to drink, and the answer is YES!

KSFs, feel free to add more - things that work for you, consistently

hopefully someone can find something helpful

You are a man of many parentheses. You might even top Stuart's use of quotation marks on WB.

Oh, and François isn't the only Berserker to have his name turned from a proper noun into a verb - besides Audozing, there's also Pobegaing.

+1 on temperature - the room temperature definition has been a problem since the 60's/70's at least. But I generally reckon you can always warm up a wine by cuddling the glass in your hand, or cool it by a few minutes in the fridge if needed; these make-do's will work for the majority of every-day wines.

On stemware, either a generic glass or a varietal specific, but you pay more in storage space for having the specialized glasses. But comparison tasting does show a difference (then on the downside, have you tasted a pinot from a cab glass?? - not recommended), but the most important thing is having enough space to swirl. I translate that as maximum one-third fill

+1 again on temperature - one of the most overlooked factors, I think.
Whilst you can get gizmos (not cheap, either), that will get a bottle to the right temperature - what use is that when the wine's in a decanter, as mine always is.
So I added (around 15€) my own temperature controller to an old RV (Campervan) fridge I had lying around - it's one of the 120V/240V/12V/gas guys that has fins on the back - ammonia based so there's no compressor. That makes it 100% silent (so it can sit in the lounge), and gives a significant amount of storage since there isn't the "missing piece" where the compressor goes. It takes 2 decanters (one wine, one port), 4 bottles (emergency bottles), a fair amount of chocolate and, my wife says, is OK for storing bananas too. Temperatures sometimes hit 30°C+ in our lounge in the summer, but the wine goes into the glass at 16°C, regardless and with zero effort.

A glass of wine is usually defined as 5 oz. A small pour is 2 or 3 oz. Given that most wine glasses are at least 21 oz. capacity, usually more like 28 oz., where some Burgundy bowls are 30+ oz., a 1/3 fill is HUGE. When we were discussing the differences the shape of a wine glass makes on aroma (and therefore taste) it was pointed out by a fellow Berserker that the distance from the top of the wine to the rim of the glass was probably the same despite the capacity difference.

Speaking of specialized stemware, there's some interesting commentary here:

Since we mentioned snark the other day, you all should take lessons from GregT's posts in that thread.

A big KSF for me is when I get to drink Tim's wine. Even better when he's there, too.

Time to relax and just enjoy the glass without feeling pressure to try the other ten bottles. So I enjoy wine with dinner way more than wine tastings, for example, or parties with ten things open.

Wouldn't the term "good idea" work?

Key sucess factor sounds like a sanitation engineer type phrase or something you see on a poster.

Sorry I hate over complication of terminology & phrases.

I bet you like George Carlin's skit "Euphemisms". You're not somebody unless you're using the latest buzzwords / jargon.

I think the items cited in the link make sense for tastings, but I take a more "wine as art & science" perspective at home and with family and friends. And I've been to plenty of seminars and tastings. But the real fun begins when wine is enjoyed as the adult beverage it is...

It's the whole experience. Wine quality, wine price, decent enough match for food and even for setting (weather, formality), and good company with whom to enjoy. That can make a $7 Rancho Zabaco Sauvignon Blanc served by my FIL at the wrong temperature while all of us were having a good time taste great. I remembered the wine...and am thankful for the good FIL I had while we had hime with us.

Cheers and Enjoy!

As a adjunct to the lighter food/lighter wine KSF, I'd add older wine with simpler fare, younger wine with more intensely flavored food.
