The last offline with the Hartford gang was a Bordeaux themed event and seemed to go pretty well. Thought maybe we should do another. Was thinking Burgundy might be a good theme. Maybe one flight of whites and the rest reds with a bubbly to start. Peppercorns did a great meal last time we went and provided a 5 course chefs tasting if I recall. Does this sound good to the usual suspects, and or new folks. If not am open to other themes and locale. Or to keep it simple, can do free for all. Was thinking Monday July 9th or 16th. Dennis has offered to bring a few nice 2007s and proposed the theme. Sounds good to me so lets see if we can run with this theme.

Attendees:

1. Jonathan
2. Chris
3. Dennis
4. Windy
5. Tad
6. Joe Neri

I don't think anything in June will fit into my schedule.

(and while I would like an opportunity to experience some highly regarded red Burgundy, I'm not generally a fan of Chardonnay or Pinot Noir.)

Would either July 9th or 16th work ? We could limit white burgs to 2 or do red burgs only. Or an interesting theme might be Burgs and Bordeaux all red.

Those dates might work for me, but too soon to tell. Kitchen remodel which just started takes precedence over all recreational activities.
I like the idea of red Burg vs. Bdx.

I think either dates would work for us, and I'll contribute my last 2013 Henri Boillot as one of the white Burgundy bottles.

For the red Burgundy, I think I can scare up something interesting.

Hey, how would you guys like to do a 2007 Burgundy theme? I can supply any or all of the following:

Comte de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny (either Village or Premier Cru - the Village is drinking better now)
Ambroise Corton le Rognet Grand Cru (surprisingly ready)
Ponsot Chappelle-Chambertin Grand Cru (a little young but delicious)
Ponsot Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru (haven't tried yet)
Ponsot Morey-Saint Denis Premier Cru (haven't tried yet)

Personally, I'd love to put both the Chambolle-Musigny Premier Crus from Ponsot and Comte de Vogüé head to head, but that's something that should wait a few years. That would leave the 3 other 2007's for this event.

Ok decided we will try to run with the 2007 Burgundy theme and see if we garner enough interest. Anyone up for it ?

That's all French to me.
The closest thing to Burgundy that I could contribute from my cellar is a bottle of NV Pierre Legras BdB.

Well, we usually have champagne anyway so that works for me. I can bring more to cover you.

Tangentially, had 2007 Domaine Denis Bachelet Bourgogne last night - really a good value, considering the fairly low price. Very centered and balanced if a bit simple.

Um, you listed three bottles of red and one white already. I can't see a point to bringing even more.
If Jonathan and any other attendees bring just one bottle each we'll still be unable to drink it all.

And if I don't like the Burgundy I'll just hog the champagne, (which in my experience drinks a bit above it's price point.)

Maybe I should get a hotel room downtown, within crawling distance of the restaurant.

I don't think I have any red burgundy from 2007 but could possibly source. I do have some pretty good Christain Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Valmur and Les Clos or if people want I think I might have H Boillot Corton Charlemagne but its a 2002 to compare against the 2007. What do folks think ?

Sure, bring it. We don't have to stick to 2007.

Oops my bad didn't even remember your Boillot was a 2013. I could also bring a botlle of red burg but it wouldn't be 2007. Have to check what I have. Which of the reds that you listed Dennis do you propose to bring ? And is your Boillot a Corton Charlie by any chance if not no big deal as I have never had one I didn't like. from them

I did hyperlink the Boillot to the CT notes - it's a Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère. Or maybe since white Burgundy isn't very popular, I could stick to 2007 and bring the usual JJ Prüm. Or maybe I'll bring both!

I'll probably bring the Ambroise Corton le Rognet and maybe the Village level Comte de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny.

If I admitted I wasn't much of a white Burgundy fan myself, you wouldn't tell anyone, would you?

So this Burgundy thing is completely outside of my experience. I have one bottle, a 2011 J. Confuron-Cotetidot Nuits St. Georges, about which I know nothing. Bought during PC's last days. I'm happy to bring this, or I could bring a domestic pinot for contrast (Rivers-Marie or Aubert). Or I could stay home and drink cabernet....

It's all good Tad. I'd be fine with you bringing the '11 NSG or a domestic Pinot. We're somewhat regular buyers of Rivers-Marie, so we'd be curious about Aubert.

Do we have a solid date yet?

Looks like June doesnt work for Chris. I was thinking either Monday July 9th or 16th. Is either of these days better for people ? I am flexible

Would folks please indicate whether Monday July 9th or 16th works better for them so that we can finalize a date. I assume also that everyone is happy with Peppercorns. Seems like everyone enjoyed it last time.

Either date works for me. The 16th is slightly better perhaps.
I'm looking forward to dinner at Peppercorns.

Same here - either date, but would probably prefer the 16th.

Thanks Dennis ! Sorry you can't join in Phiily but looking forward to seeing you and Windy in a few weeks. Do not fear I have been working behind the scenes to round up a few more folks but if we dont 6 works great, since you know we will have 8 wines anyway.

It's mostly settled here on our end - room rented, reds picked because of the best drinkability:

2007 Comte de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny Village
2007 Bertrand Ambroise Corton le Rognet Grand Cru

Not 100% sure on the white yet. Have to talk to The Deciding Factor (aka my wife Windy ).
