CA cab fans - San Diego Wine Co. currently has Foley-Johnson (2013) cabernet, Rutherford for 22.99. Cellar Tracker retail is $53. Haven't tried it but gets good scores in past vintages so I bought a few.

Costco has Pierre Matrot Meursault 2014 at $17.99. Screwcap, so it will take some time for the oak to balance out; it is not nearly ready to drink yet. Interesting at this price

Nice, hope they have it at my Costco. Which one did you find this at? Thanks in advance.

Costco Cheers!

I walked through the wine section of our local warehouse a few days back, and I only recall seeing three of those (the Monsanto, the Insignia, and the Catena Malbec, I think...). Selection is definitely location-dependent.

The last Costco bottle I've tried and gone back for more of was the 2014 Señorio de Barahonda Yecla Campo Arriba Old Vines...a full-bodied, quite serviceable BBQ wine for $8.99. I have noticed a little bit of bottle variation, but still.

Definitely. SoCal has a lot of local PN etc., Seattle area has a wide range of Washington reds, the east coast a bit more European, but it appears that individual store managers have a little leeway within this to select oddballs that appeal to them. Examples that stand out include Chryseia in the Oakbrook store many years ago, as well as the local preference in first/second growth Bordeaux, Grange, or Leeuwin Artist chardonnay.

Meridian Chardonnay, 2015, $2.99 at local Trader Joe's. Not even an attempt at a private label. 10+ years ago, bought Meridian as a daily drinker Chard at Costco for $4 to $5. A Treasury Wine Estates brand according to the Web. Believe they are in the process of reorganizing.....

May be a decent enough party wine and/or stockup wine for those who keep an area of cheap juice on hand as defenders for the good stuff. Think some CTers even have a grab area for spouses...and their friends.

Didn't buy any but would have been tempted if it was screwcap for travel. Too much wine here right now to continue to stock up.

Frugal Cheers!

Just make sure it's a tight fit in the cup-holder so it won't spin round, then attach the corkscrew through the steering wheel spokes and keep going round the roundabout (rotary) till the cork comes out....Easy after the second bottle

I'm OK with being a source of amusement.

Evenings. Safely ensconced in hotel room. Plastic cups. Screwcap wine. Simplicity. Although I do have some travel wine goblets.

Meanwhile, read this a while back on those infamous red cups. The replies to my above post reminded me of this:

That is fascinating. A nice way to start the day, learning something new about something that has been in front of us for a long time!

+1

But my only real criterion is that a cup (or glass) has a hole at the top and not at the bottom

And yes, screwcaps make life easier for travellers especially when airport security has a nasty habit of confiscating corkscrews on a random whim

Those particular red cups are notorious for parties...and the beach...for a reason.

I remember going out on a friend's boat w/about 12 people over one Christmas season. Many on the boat, not the pilot in command, were guzzling red wine in those red cups. I was not: I observed. Further evidence, for me, of the benefits of moderation.

Glad the link is interesting. It was to me.

Total Wine sent an e-mail offer of 1-cent shipping. Apparently a SoCal deal only, $99 minimum spend on Winery Direct wines, thru 9/17/17. Have had OK experience w/that product line, but not exactly tempted on this one. A new type of offer, though.

Winery Direct is good for imported wines, as a lot of their Bordeaux falls under the designation. The domestic stuff is almost exclusively their private label juice (Courtney Benham, Carson Ridge, etc). I avoid it completely. There may be some decent stuff I am missing out on, but these are the high profit margin wines being churned out at high volumes.

Thanks, will keep that in mind. Looking back, it seems all of the Winery Direct wines I've purchased at TW have been imported. Not spectacular wines, but good enough given QPR.

And it has to be worth the trip, as part of other stops. That's way the one-cent shipping looked interesting....don't know the extent to which they customize such offers.

Not exactly a wine deal or at a wine "retailer," but if anyone is looking for a wine travel case, wine.woot (which I've never purchased from before today) has a 12-bottle Wine Check "Daytripper" for $45. Looks related to the Wine Check Elite, but at a very attractive price point.

I have no independent information on this offer, but those interested might first look at the discussion on WB on this offer compared to others produced by the same company. http://www.wineberserkers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=143581

Thanks for the update...sounds like an older model or something like that.

I anticipate being a light-duty user (i.e. just trucking bottles to dinners/picnics/wine club/maybe driving trips), so I'm not too concerned. Should show up in 1-2 weeks, so we'll see what it's like at that point.

Oh I agree. It sounds like it is a good deal for the uses you indicate. It would appear that it would be less good for air travel.
