Answering my own questions...

Drinking... not sure yet, certainly a sparkler to start, maybe a Grenache with dinner

Cooking... I'm responsible for the Turkey, cranberries, and a pie. Turkey will be smoked on a Z-Grill(Treager knock-off), thinking I'll brine it a day ahead using a honey/salt brine then stuff it with fruit, onion, herbs to put on the smoker. Cranberries will be whole berries cooked down with some orange, maybe Bourbon cherries, and orange zest. Pies will be butternut squash, similar to pumpkin, but using what we have.

Thankful... Pretty obvious for me this year, still alive and kicking, though not quite as hard as previous yet. Extremely blessed to have Barbilocks as my partner and friend. Our two daughters now each have two daughters themselves, so "The girls" can mean a whole bunch of different things in our house. Code words are now in place to identify which set we are talking about. Pitas, Panganigirls, Flower Girls. So blessed to have them all and know that I will be able to see them grow up. In June, our older grandkids and their parents joined us for a week, Seattle, home, and then camping near Mt Rainier. Near the end of the visit, the ten year old came in while I was alone in the camper and gave me a long hug in private. I held her for a long time and fought back the tears. We won't be physically together this Thanksgiving, but I can feel their hugs through the interwebs.

Drinking & Eating - My daughter and her wife will host us for the first time. They hosted a Friendsgiving during Covid - so they know what they are doing. But I get to bring wine. My daughter sourced some Kir - so I get to bring bubbles. She found a local heritage poultry farm and has chosen a capon for the bird. I have an interesting wine for that - 2015 Red Newt Vin Gris from Seneca lake. At the tasting, roast chicken was the suggested pairing. I always bring some Red Burgundy for those like myself who get a bit more thirsty at this long meal.

Thankful for the fact that my social circle did not shrink that much even though I am working less than half time. Since I left college, my work friends have been the major group. So I am thankful that I have made new friends in some of my other activities and connected with old friends from college more.

Just my wife and I and two other CA transplant friends. Non Traditional. I’m making Canneloni stuffed with meat, ricotta and a Porcini Mushroom Cream Sauce. Homemade Foccacia and a Caprese Salad.

Thinking 2014 Kobalt Cab which is my last one. Also Non Traditional. I have Italian Wine but probably won’t go there.

Thankful for my kids, family & friends and still waking up everyday.

This is my year to work the holiday, so it's a hectic week. No Thanksgiving Turkey Trot to race in and I had to do a LOT of maneuvering at work just to get the evening free to attend the family dinner which is very VERY traditional.....I personally love the idea of stuffed Canneloni.

Wine is per the host, who prefers California heavy hitting reds. I might bring a Pinot Noir/Burgundy just for myself. Heck....I might just bring a Vincent Pinot Rose'

Thankful for this friendly community on CT. It's a nice escape from the world in which we live sometimes.

Having a traditional meal. We're planning on drinking:

2019 Domaine Capuano-Ferreri Santenay 1er Cru La Comme
2019 Domaine Guillot-Broux Mâcon-Cruzille Beaumont
2018 Voskevaz Karasi Areni Vieilles Vignes
1997 Moulin Touchais Coteaux du Layon (desert)

Thankful for family and health above all. And hopefully a Packer victory.

Cheers to all. Enjoy your gatherings!

Depends what you’re eating for dinner. Not everyone eats Turkey for Thanksgiving. My Mexican friends have carne asada or tamales. We are having Italian Food. I know some who eat Prime Rib. BTW, I am going to serve 16 Zenato Amarone with my canneloni instead of the 14 Kobalt that we’ll drink over Christmas now.

Just the 3 of us for Thanksgiving dinner, at my son's request are going with a very traditional menu: Turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, roasted carrots, salad, rolls. Lemon-meringue and fruit (homegrown) pie. Yum.

I am the only wine drinker of the 3 of us, so will open a Burgundy with the meal.

Thankful for family, friends (including my fur pals), and good health!

Small family group for Thanksgiving - wife, daughter, son in law, seven year old twins and an aunt. Pretty tradional fare - turkey, stuffing, green beans, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, pecan pie, pumpkin pie, apple pie.

Not a wine oriented group so not breaking the bank - a Raventos cava, a Morgon-Long Chard, and 2017 Big Table and Lingua Franca PNs for educational purposes.

On the Thankful side I had a knee replacement (2nd)two months ago and I am so thankful it is essentially fully recovered. And thankful for having our family together and healthy.

Drinking: will be spur-of-the-moment pulls from the home cellar. Maybe a summary post will be in order on Sunday

Cooking: Mrs Fingers is working on Thursday, so I think we're going to feast somewhere on Friday where cooking is someone else's job

Thankful for: See above - Plus, a year of good health and relative prosperity, a new puppy, working a job I still enjoy, a beautiful and bright life partner, living in a great neighborhood, having a recently-tuned Yamaha baby grand in the living room, little in the way of debt, comfortable shoes. That's a rough top 10. The more I think about it, the more I could add.

Maybe depends on the pinot, but many of the bigger more full bodied expressions go well with rich saucy meats all day long, not just with turkey , chicken and seafood. give it a whirl!

After finding out a couple of acquaintances had recently passed away or had experienced a stroke, I am thankful for my family's health and mine. Also thankful that a teenage niece, who just finished a grueling chemo a couple months ago, has a good prognosis but just needs to build up strength.

We will have a very traditional Thanksgiving dinner of turkey with all the fixings. We’ll start with champagne. Then for dinner I’ll serve a 2000 C. Margaux. I have so much great wine. If you can’t serve your best wines with your best friends and family on Thanksgiving, when the heck are you going to drink it?

We have much to be thankful for. My daughter married a great guy on a beautiful day surrounded by friends and family. The ceremony, officiated by my son, was wonderful, and the reception was a blast.

I retired after a long and successful career. Our family is pretty healthy and happy. We have two beautiful homes, now renovated, in places we love. We have many terrific friends.

I certainly don’t deserve all this, but I am deeply thankful for it.

Thanksgiving was always my late father’s favorite holiday. As I get older, I’m inclined to agree.

Happy Wednesday morning all. Wishing everyone a pleasant and safe holiday. T-day is scheduled to be in upper 50s and mostly clear tomorrow. Having dinner with museum director and 18 others and am in charge of the wines that I am selecting today. Also bought a medium sized turkey breast for sandwiches and a follow up second turkey dinner with Dr. M on Friday at home. No traveling this holiday.

Very thankful for all positive reports from a battery of health tests since last May… still have some ultrasounds and x-rays ahead but no serious diseases or ailments so far. One result… I’ve lost over 40 pounds and gone from a 38-40 waist to a 34 waist and 176#s.

Sláinte!

I have no idea what we're doing for Thanksgiving other than we're going to my MIL's house and extended family will be there and that there is apparently a group text to discuss the ever changing dishes all the way up to the moment we arrive.

I'm just sitting in my chair keeping my mouth shut and minding my own business.

btw my MIL is a teetotaler so I'll likely be drinking water. Might have some wine or a cocktail when I finally manage to extricate myself from the situation later in the evening.

I'm thankful that my cancer doctor finally cut me lose Friday. 5 years and my last report was undetectable. One more doctor fired!

We are in Paris for this Thanksgiving as it's also our anniversary. So, no cooking for me. But... I have a feeling the wine and food will be decent. 😏

Tomorrow we have reservations at Restaurant Pages. Thanks MC2 Wines for the recommendation.

Now over to the Food Porn thread to post numerous pictures of foie gras and charcuterie.

PS: Totally thankful for my rockstar wife!
PPS: Congratulations Joe!!!

Something to celebrate for sure!

I was able to set up my Christmas lights outside (nothing fancy) and today seems like a good day to turn them on. Could use a little color in the yard this time of year.

We're visiting various branches of my wife's family and are doing only token amounts of cooking. Turkey, mashed potatoes, etc. today, and a standing rib pirk roast tomorrow. Drinking a Ragtag Pinot Rosé and a Tercero Pinot Noir today, and contributing a Sabelli-Frisch Zweigelt for tomorrow - probably to be consumed with appetizers.

I am grateful for the love and care of my wonderful wife, for my daughters who are growing up to be quality young women, for a year with some memorable family adventures, for good jobs working with people we enjoy, for healing and new growth in friendships...and many many other things.

Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 to all of you! We are doing the outsource route for the first time. Just the two of us having waved off travel this time. Did our version on the Turkey trot which is a bike ride. More than enough plausibility to allow no limits on dinner. :)

Pre dinner wine is a 2015 Keplinger Lithic. TBD for dinner wine.

I am quarantined in Sick Bay with the Rona :-( Day 2 and day 1 with the Paxlovid so hoping to start feeling better in the next few days. It's like a bad cold mixed with the body aches of the flu, back in particular is pretty sore. Our Turkey Day was scheduled for Friday so I will miss that and be having leftovers. Was going to go Grenache this year. After attending the Walla Walla Grenachefest last month I thought it would be a nice change from traditional Pinot Noir.
