I've only rarely bought wine in OWC, but don't recall any odor issues. If the odor is strong, I'd likely let it air out if possible. I can't see it having any negative affect on the wine, regardless. A cork or screwtop is not permeable enough for ambient odors to migrate. My closest experience to this is when I built my cellar. I used lumber yard douglas fir ripped down to various sizes to build my own racking. The room DID smell like fresh cut lumber for quite a while. I also used untreated pine paneling on the ceiling. Lots of wood smells. I filled the racking within a few weeks of construction, and never gave it any thought, nor have I ever detected any impact. Not sure what I'd even expect to look for. Another thought, most red wine is stored in an oak barrel with direct contact for a year or more before bottling. THOSE aromatic compounds do get translated into the wine, some more than others, but that contact is vastly different than airborne odors post bottling. I answered "no negative impact", but my real vote is you are overthinking it. :)
