I don't appreciate most IPA's that come my way, and don't care for most light beers either these days, so I'm always in search for something in the middle with good flavor, refreshment, and just something not cloying (ok balanced). Latest find has been the Saison from Allagash. Belgian styled, 6.1 Abv, I'm really liking the citrus, malt, herbs, and carbonation here. Of course, I should say both bottles I've consumed have been absolutely ice cold after seeing some freezer prep time. But I've had this latest one open a while, and it's still drinking great toward the end here as it warms.

Although I have some fancy bourbon barrel aged barley wines in the wine cellar, I prefer a nice pale ale for a daily drinker.
I just poured a Goose Island 312 Pale Ale into a frosty glass. So far, so good.

Great Taste of the Midwest yesterday. Largest craft beer tasting in the country.

It was a nice time. I tasted lots of beers. I can't remember much but those mango habaneros beers people were pouring are still lingering on my mid palate.....in a bad way. Lots more sour beers than I remember as well. LOTS of interesting creative beers. Some amazing stouts....especially from Founders (Michigan) and Lakefront (Milwaukee). I need to drink more Imperial Stouts this winter.

Not sure about the "312," but had Goose Island IPA on tap a few weeks ago, Oswego, NY, and it was damn good.

I thought 312 was more of a wheat ale??? Really good beer.

Over a month since the last post here? What, is this a wine forum or something?

I love this time of year because I'm a total sucker for the seasonal pumpkin ales.

So far this year, I've had the Dogfish Head Punkin Ale and Elysian's Punkuccino, a coffee pumpkin ale. The latter is awesome, with plenty of pumpkin and baking spices rolled in with the coffee notes. I've really grown fond of Elysian since I was first introduced to them earlier this year.

Saw the Dogfish Pumpkin at Wholefoods yesterday and didn't quite pull the trigger.

Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin has been my beer lately. Tried the regular one, too but not my fave.

I very seldom drink beer anymore, but last night, as I opened our garage fridge to retrieve something, I spied a bottle of Liefmans Goudenband. It had been in that fridge for a very long time, maybe several years, so I thought I'd drink it. Mrs. Eddie and I split it and it was really quite tasty.

I'm digging the Dogfish Punkin. I blew through my 4-pack and will likely reload while it's still available.

The Grapefruit Sculpin has been my go-to beer of the summer. In cans, it was perfect to take to the pool or beach. Trader Joes had it, and I stocked up.

the Grapefruit Sculpin also my go to beer right now.

YAY for pumpkin beer season. The dogfishhead Punkin is a go to each year. One I picked up this time around is the Ballast Point Pumpkin Scotch Ale. I have had one of them, it's pretty good for what it is, but it's not all that pumpkiny and more like an amber than a scotch ale IMO.

I saw the Dogfish Pumpkin and was curious, but if it's that good I will grab me some next time I'm at the store. Cause I need an excuse.....

Picked up some New Glarus Staghorn Octoberfest beer, Goose Island Autumn Ale, Red Hook Pumpkin Porter, Allagash Saison, Two Brothers Cane & Abel and Domaine Dupage, Dogfish 60 minute and Hinterland Farmhouse Ale.....for my fall beer selections. Beer fridge is full.

Currently drinking my FFP, Elysian's Dark O' the Moon pumpkin stout. Pretty tasty, but I'd give the nod to their Punkoccino.

Like the Allagash Saison too...though I found not as much as it warms. Got used to drinking them frosty out of the freezer.

My local bottle shop yesterday had Avery's The Beast on tap so I decided to have a pint. I knew when I ordered it that it was 17% (yes, seventeen percent) so I decided I would not drink it all since I am small and had to drive. I drank just under half of it in about 45 minutes and knew that anymore than that would have been a mistake. As it was, that much may have been a mistake. But I made it home safely, and three 12oz bottles of it seemed to have followed me home. I will drink one in a few months and the others will age for a while.
Good stuff but a sipping beer only.

Ha! What a name.... Never had it, but it sounds damn good - citrus/grapefruit tastes often work really well in IPAs. One more brew I probably can't get in the eastern U.S.

When I lived in Nova Scotia, I occasionally had occasion to run across a sculpin. Ugh, fairly nasty bottom-dwelling fish, really. They're made to anchor themselves there.

Leinenkugel's Creamy Dark - had a sixer of this on Friday. Oh man, you talk about easy-to-drink. Tastes like Guinness with a bit of root beer in it. May not sound great, but it was.

DH is a fan of Avery White Rascal.

On a recent trip, bought him a Steel Reserve Lager at the grocery store. He really enjoyed it. I am not a beer drinker, but I took a sip and at least could understand why he found it so refreshing after driving all day.

My cheap local white was was just fine, while he enjoyed a 24-oz. can of Steel. Will have to see if I can source it locally.

Cheers!

I love beer but don't drink more than two a week, if that much, because it upsets my stomach. But after a lackluster wine tasting at my local bottle shop I sampled a Revelry Oh My Darlin scotch ale. It was the best damn beer I have ever had. I rarely buy growlers but I had to get a half tonight. If they had it in bottles I would have bought all they have. Now I am trying to determine if they bottle (or can) it at all.

See what you can do for me S1. Dr C is in Chas for work until Friday and you could pass it off to her.

Lately I find myself reaching for an Innis & Gunn Rum Aged Scottish Ale. Full of flavor and very smooth...not too bitter like some IPA's.

Sunday by 'And Union' is now my go to pale ale. A Bavarian style ale, with 8 weeks brewing time, from South Africa...

When keeping things simple I like Sam Smith's Organic Lager, brewed quite locally in Yorkshire. I randomly stumbled across some in the King's Canyon NP store a couple years ago, so perhaps it isn't too difficult to find across the pond.

I filled a growler of Stone's Enjoy By 02.14.16 Black IIPA.
I'm normally not a fan of black IPAs, but this is an absolute gem! Perhaps because it really doesn't taste black, thanks to the overwhelming hops, which is consistent with the Enjoy By line.

Perhaps I've only recently become aware, but the past few years it's seemed like North American brewers have achieved critical mass and beyond - quite a number of really excellent things being produced.

Hi Doug,

Critical mass? Far from it! Small boutique breweries are popping up almost every day, not to mention the enormous number of home brewer enthusiasts. Beer is much easier to be made at home than wine, after all. :p

But I definitely agree with you - some excellent things being produced in North America nowadays (that includes our nice neighbor Canada!). Heck, it caused such an up-stir and threat, even macro breweries are now making some decent beers just to try to take a piece of the "craft beer bizniz".

So much to drink... but I only have one liver...
