This is my Friday night and I'm feeling like an aged Cab. Not sure if it's going to be '95 Shafer Stag's Leap, '01 Arrowood Monte Rosso, or '06 Napanook.

We polished off the remains of a 2012 Proper Syrah opened yesterday, and have just followed it with a 2015 Girard Cabernet Sauvignon.

Decided to go with an '03 Paul Hobbs To-Kalon. Weirdest thing - there was a smell of Crayola Crayon for the first few minutes! From experience, this won't be good for at least several hours, and probably not hitting it's stride until tomorrow.

I've found that in wines before. It's from the paraffin on the cork.

So I'm not crazy. Well, at least about that.

My daughter has her Christmas Party tonight so it's just the wife and I. My daughter gets to drink plenty of my good wine but when it's just the two of us some of the "Good Stuff" comes out. Tonight will be:

2012 Kobalt Cabernet Sauvignon

To be served with Filet Mignon with Bernaise Sauce and grilled asparagus.

Dinner out tonight with RedRedMoreRed and another Wednesday Wine wino. Not sure what will be consumed, but there should be plenty of it.

Decision made. I'm taking a 2010 Hobel Wine Works Cabernet Sauvignon Engelhard Vineyard and a 2011 Rivers-Marie Cabernet Sauvignon.

That constitutes an emergency in my book. That situation needs to be rectified post haste!

Started with a Balvenie 12 Year Old Double Wood and it doesn't suck . Going to a friends house. Wife made chicken Picatta and I'm bringing a 2013 Epoch Veracity. Lemon and red wine don't make the best pairing so wanted something with power. No idea what my friend will open. He knows I go deep so hopefully he steps up.

Opened a 2003 JC Pichot Les Larmes de Bacchus the other night, so I'll have a glass or two of that tonight. The sweeter a Vouvray is, the better it gets after being open a night or two.

As research for our Portugal trip, we are drinking a 2015 Crasto Duoro, the low end bottling. It is ok with food but otherwise, it tastes like a low end bottling. Way too jammy. I have had some of the better Crastos and they are worth it.

2014 MACDONALD. a five hour decant did it right. I saved enough for a healthy taste tomorrow. It was worth every penny. If you have the means, I highly recommend it.
