2007 Château Pradeaux BandolMourvèdre Blend, Mourvèdre more |
12/19/2017 - violistus wrote: 94 pointsThis was ravishingly and energetically tight and closed tonight right from the bottle. The juice is inky ruby purple, and there were prominent dusty tannins on the finish, which closes off sharply at the moment. Mesquite and berry aromas leap from the glass, and there's quite a large, polished, and mature frutti di bosco note. A slight chill flattered this baby. I have a few more bottles and will wait 5 years at a minimum. Patience for this wonderfully traditional beast! |

5/3/2017 - DaddyNeedsPow Likes this wine: 90 pointsLove the (grenache-heavy?) nose, with lots of red fruit character buffered by some sort of milk chocolate thing. The palette is a bit less interesting and thinner than one may expect from the nose. Definitely an extraordinary value.

2013 Bedrock Wine Co. Old Vine ZinfandelCalifornia more |
10/28/2015 - DaddyNeedsPow Likes this wine: NRAn addendum to my prior note. Still very much to like, but this is the first time wine has survived in the bottle to taste on another night. The second night showed the wine hotly and bitterly alcoholic...lesson learned. NO LEFTOVERS!

2004 Tenuta Corte Pavone Brunello di MontalcinoSangiovese more |
7/31/2015 - vinorsk Likes this wine: 95 pointsWhat can I say, another fantastic vintage for this wine. Tremendous QPR for a big, rich, complex, earthy Brunello with great tannins, fruit, earth, leather, and finish. Decanted an hour and drunk with roast whale. Delicious wine and very vibrant. Drinking well now but no signs of flagging.

3/14/2015 - Motz wrote: 98 pointsI had the good fortune of retasting this elixir--the remaining portion of two 10-hour-long decanted bottles, subsequently repoured into one of the bottles and recorked, non-refrigerated--four days (about 100 hours) after they were first opened. It had shed some of its baby fat and showed prominent dry wine qualities, including minerals, tobacco, ash, and Douro terroir. Overall, while grapey, the wine featured a liquified, candied mineral-terroir element all but impossible to describe. Incredibly dense, rich, and pure. Drink through 2060. 97-99.

11/25/2013 - DaddyNeedsPow Likes this wine: 91 pointsA hit. Why can't anyone else make Merlot like the Right Bank? Great earthy tannins let just enough posh blue fruit poke through. Would love to see if it puts on a bit more palette weight in a year or two. Try again in 2015.

4/9/2014 - Motz wrote: 89 pointsA powerful wine that features a Gewurztraminer-like bouquet. It drinks nothing like it smells. The potent taste profile is reminiscent of phenol disinfectant cleaners used in India, alcohol fuels, and creosote. This is a different wine, but a well made one, without flaws. Enjoyable in its own unique way. The only wine I know with a similar taste profile is the 2010 La Cadalora Traminer Aromatico Vallagarina.

11/5/2013 - Amjn wrote: 89 pointsThe Tikal malbec is smooth and big in style with sweet dark plum, light cocoa, oak and a heavy dose of herbaceousness. Almost too much. Interesting and really approachable. All in all a little bombastic and lacking complexity.
