2010 Conti Costanti Brunello di Montalcino

Sangiovese more

Three hour decant and I'd call that a minimum. Better nose than palate and better with food than alone. Red cherry, big mushroom, earthy. Goes more mineral late. This could improve, but I struggle with this producer. 90+

2/26/2022 4:56:00 AM - Struggle with the style, I suppose. Certainly not the longevity.
I suspect I'm drinking them too young, but I never seem to appreciate Costanti as much as other tasters nor as much as I appreciate many other Brunello.

Not a rebuy this vintage this price

12/23/2021 4:32:00 AM - Sorry for the quick, publicly useless note. I wanted to get something in quick before I threw the bottle out and lost track.

There's an awkward, unpleasant aftertaste that I sometimes get with cheap reds (think "Blackstone Merlot"), but have never been able to adequately describe. I didn't get that on the 2018, which I really liked.

These were auction purchase, but I don't think that has anything to do with it, and my experience was consistent across 2 bottles, two nights.

RdM weight and color. Bean soup, grilled meat. Legit Brunello and a fine house wine at the price. Wouldn't hold these forever though. Looks like it's Ridolfi BdM this vintage

  • Comment posted by BrunelloBob:

12/16/2021 4:08:00 PM - There's an alphanumeric code on a paper(?) label around the capsule. That code can be traced via the "traceability" link under "wines" on the "Consorzio del vino Brunello di Montalcino" website. It traces back to Ridolfi

4 hr slo-ox. Proper but simple Brunello. Lacks complexity. May have called this a solid rdM.

  • Comment posted by BrunelloBob:

8/10/2021 3:54:00 AM - This wine is about the best priced decent Brunello around. The 2019 Caparzo rosso di Montalcino may be an even better play, boding well for the vintage.

Drank in Celebration of Saint Joseph Robinette Biden Jr's vanquishment of the Soulless Self-aggrandizing Orange Troll currently occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. As such, this was by far the finest wine I've ever had. It's a shame it's not American. As Grandma said: Spread the Faith.
More objectively: Orange, orange peel, toast with just a touch of butter. Very good length. Approachable and enjoyable now when accompanied by an appropriate electoral outcome.

1997 Tenuta Greppo (Biondi-Santi) Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

Sangiovese more

7/15/2019 - Paul S wrote: 96 points

Biondi-Santi Riserva wine dinner (Taberna, Bukit Merah): Woah. This was a show-stopper. A simply amazing Brunello, starting to show at peak as well. The 1997 vintage character stood out on the nose - it was rich, ripe and warmly generous, with notes of black cherries, plums and dark berries, along earth, meat and dusty mineral, then sprigs of fresh herb and dried flowers, all deeply integrated into a masculine, yet perfumed bouquet. If ever a wine could bring tears to the eyes just by how good it smells: this would be it. Just wow. The palate was amazing too. It had a lovely round sweetness to its flavours of cherries and red berries, infused with warm, fragrant spice on an almost endless finish. Yet it was also a wine of elegant finesse, with velvet tannins and lovely pricks of freshness enlivening it throughout. Perhaps a little less complex than either the stupendous 1990, or the equally brilliant 1985 that shared its flight, but this was so, so good. An utterly lovely, seductively hedonistic bottle of Brunello - I could drink this all day, every day.

Some red fruit and a long back end aftertaste I'm not crazy about.

  • Comment posted by BrunelloBob:

5/28/2019 2:54:00 AM - It's actually pretty similar to other Rioja I've had. I just don't like the typical flavor, just not my thing, I think. That's why I withheld score.

Could be too young, but I've drank other wine young (Brunello, Bdx, Nebbiolo etc) and been able to say "Wow, this is gonna be really good in a few years." I just don't get that with Rioja.

2007 got very good press, but it's not in the same league as 2006 and certainly not near as good as 2010 in my opinion.
