2017 Bevan Cellars Ontogeny

Napa Valley Red Bordeaux Blend more

Maybe not as integrated to merit Dunnuck’s 97 IMO but above Galloni’s 80. A bit hard to rate but still enjoyable given some flaws

2012 Ovid Red Wine

Napa Valley Red Bordeaux Blend more

Took this 2012 Ovid Hexameter to Collin & Sarah's dinner party. It is coming right into its own. It did take about an hour to open up, but once it did, it was incredibly well-made and richly balanced. It was delicious and sneaky rich. It paired incredibly well with the homemade radiotore pasta and short-rib ragu. We had quite the line up with the 2012 Ovid Hexameter, a 2007 Alpha Omega, a 2005 Dal Forno Romano Valpolicella, and a 20016 Mario Ecolina Terre Sicilane. A great night with fun friends, delicious food, and great wine. Cheers!!

2019 Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more

Mouton Rothschild hasn't skipped a beat since the sublime 2009 vintage! 2019 continues their winning streak with one of the wines of the vintage. Almost opaque in color, the nose resonates with its showy display of Asian spices, cigar wrapper, fresh herbs, cigar box, blackberries, crushed stone and cassis. Full-bodied, richly concentrated, opulent, and equally refined, the multi-layered display of flawlessly ripe berries, elegant textures, balance, freshness and flamboyance is what the great vintages of Mouton are all about. The finish crosses the 60 second mark with ease. Drink from 2035-2070.

2017 Château Léoville Barton

Good wine, but somewhat unremarkable. Usually I get a lot more from Leoville Barton. This wine is either shutting down, or it’s just an example of a slightly poor vintage. I’ve got one more I’ll put away and forget about for several years before I revisit this vintage.

this is a 94-95...I was disappointed relative to the price I paid, so would score it 94...but that being said, I'd be excited to drink this for the rest of my life, so went for the higher range...at its worst, too much Napa dark fruit, purple/inky, new world, plum, vanilla, blackberry...at its best, super young, fun, playful, with nice length and complexity that is only beginning its journey

During a structured blind tasting of a few top names of Bordeaux 2010. After having tasted all these wines on release I would give the following advice. 1) The quality is top, a very grand vintage 2) The wines are sometimes quite massive, bordering Napaesque 3) Tons of fruit and tons of tannins, but ripe tannins, don't be worried about them, time will be nice to Bdx2010 4) Most importantly: After 10 years there are almost zero tertiary notes in any of the top wines. So don't touch them till they are 20 years old, yes that means not before 2030. I made the mistake drinking some of my Bordeaux 2000 with 10 to 15 years of age and I deeply regret that now. I will not make that mistake again with the 2010s. Hands off for now!
TN: Decanted for 2h. Quite oaky in the nose, Rich and ripe with great tannins proving structure. Very young. This will need a lot of time to integrate the oak further. Hard to judge what it will be when mature. 94+ for today's showing

A beautiful wine. Enjoyed with friends at the Nelson Cottage owned by High West Whiskey. It is perfect right now and showing quite well.

Nectar of the Gods. I repeat: Nectar of the Gods. We took this to a friend's dinner party up the canyons who is one of the best hosts in America. He provided us the menu in advance, so I had time to plan a perfect pairing with the food. This wine is delicious. Rich, balanced, smooth, with big, bold flavor, and an endless finish. This wine is completely integrated. I heard no less than 8 or 9 times: "wow, this wine is amazing." It was indeed. Alas, I only have one left. Amazing juice. And perfectly in its drinkability window at the moment.
