Absolutely love this wine! Hard to beat the layered nuance of a well made field blend... Sad this was my last bottle

First of 3 ($39.99@) from online wine clearinghouse #2. Open with a small taste, followed by about half an hour of air before the first glass. On the nose and palate, moderate notes of tart green apples, lemon oil, minerality, lees, some oak, a white floral note and a powerful finish driven by racy acidity. Crystalline gold, medium bodied and legs, no heat. Moderate+ complexity, very good intensity and persistence. This bottling has been on my list, and although this is more than I typically pay for a non-SVD chard, especially with values running rife for the varietal, as I've mentioned in several tasting notes, this was highly worth it. Closer to the ascetic than the opulent end of the scale, this is readily distinguishable from Stony Hill on the one hand and Aubert on the other (I'm not sure what tasters getting candied or stone fruits are tasting, but I'm sure not), with a wonderful chalky texture that seems to place it closer to Burgundy than Sonoma. As others have noted, this wine does benefit from air and being served closer to room temperature, getting deeper over the 3 days I've had it open, and showing more complexity; although it's likely I'll hold my other 2 bottles more like months than years, I think that this chard is much more likely to age gracefully than its peers. Intense acidity makes it an excellent food wine, pairing well with sushi and chicken-feta orzo. Elegant, taut, subtle and beautifully balanced, this hits the spot that the Rhys Bearwallow I wrote up a month or so ago is going for with just a bit more precision. May not make you forget your favorite Puligny Montrachet or Corton Charlemagne, but I'm betting you paid more than $40 for them. Highly recommended. 93-94

12/10/2020 5:12:00 PM - You nailed the description of this Hanzll chard. Shared over dinner betwee four of us, so only got to enjoy as it warmed from cellar temperature over 90 minutes, but agree how much better balanced it was as it warmed. Will try to be more disciplined with the next bottle to experience the Day 2 and 3 integration.

Bought the same deal you did and after the first one, very sorry I didn’t buy more. Enjoy

8/9/2021 11:56:00 AM - Now you're teasing me... after the first time you told me about K&L offering this wine at a good price... I learned K&L can't/won't ship to PA. Dang! Good news was, Last Bottle offered again at the same $40 price in mid-February and I did pick up six more. Still enjoying them too,

Found 3 of the last bottles in PA at $30 close out price. If I could, I would buy up all the remaining bottles. This was a profound, beautiful Veeder cabernet that is in a really amazing place. Tannins are fully resolved, good fruit, earthy.

I decanted half the bottle on night 1 without food, and then drank the remainder via decanter with some pasta. Both times were incredible. 2 more bottles!

12/20/2018 5:40:00 AM - Sean - I feel guilty.... I just had my local PA W&S store order in form another store 6 at that $30 bargain price. I haven't tried it yet... but your notes make me look forward to it. This another example that you can "cherry pick" so good values in the PA system if you work at it! Cheers.

Enjoyed over 2 days. Nose is soft raspberry jam (muted, not bright) and rose and floral notes, with a hint of spice (dare I say - white pepper)... Palate is same muted raspberry/strawberry jam, smoky, and a some earthy tones. A little tart at the finish, with some acidity. Medium finish.

I really like the wine... and at $19 it has a great QPR!

11/3/2017 7:38:00 AM - I often "cherry pick" from PA state stores on "slow moving stock" that they markdown... so yes, picked up a case at $19. My local store will do an internal transfer no matter where in the state the excess stock sits. A great way to punch up the QPR in an otherwise "controlled" state market.

Agree with the previous notes praising this wine. PnP so I probably drank too quickly before it fully showed itself. Bright, red fruited pinot with a touch of citrus and sassafras. A touch cloudy.

10/24/2014 8:17:00 AM - Agree - this was a very nice PN... good complexity and the right amount of acidity on the finish... but sassafras, wow - I need to try to recall that essence in it.... great description though. First time I've had a Talley PN - it was a nice treat - thanks!
