2011 Lagier Meredith Syrah

Mt. Veeder more

8/11/2017 - DawgByte Does not like this wine: 84 points

I think Ron Slye nailed it when he said the following: "this may be the dumb phase some have been experiencing. I think this is a wine for the long haul."

IMO this Syrah is not ready for prime time. There are some nice cranberry, raspberry and boysenberry fruit notes on the nose, but on the palate this wine is tighter than a bull's ass in fly time. I'm getting prominent notes of tart pomegranates, which illustrate the high acidity level. I see no comparison to a Cote Rotie Syrah, with no hints of Brett that would bring out bacon, dried meats or earth tone funk, typically associated with Syrahs from France.

This wine needs a decade or more in the cellar and I'm not sure that will help it.
