10 years after Riesling tasting - 2012 (Restaurant Holz und Feuer, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Clear, deep golden color. A bit oxidized nose, a bit old and tired.
On the palate apple must, jodine, very mineral. Like an old Champagne without bubbles. Bottle was not flawed, but just past peak. 87-88

This one has developed extremely well since opening my first bottle approx. 1.5 years ago.

I think it will easily hold until 2030 but you should definitely not start at 2030. :-) if you „only“ have a few bottles I would open the first one maybe in 3 years. If you have more, just open one now!

Fantastic. Full of energy, extremely primary still. Tons of spices and red fruits. Tannins nicely integrated. Don't open one in the next five years!

    3/24/2018 1:35:00 PM - @Magnum PI: I am just starting out with CDP and have much more experience drinking Barolo/Barbaresco etc. Nevertheless, drinking the 2010 Beaucastel CDP, it was very obvious that this was still very primary. If you prefer drinking them at >10 years of age I would definitely not open one now. I am pretty sure it will add much more complexity after at least 5 years. I have 3 bottles left in my cellar and I will likely open one every 5 years from now. Hope that helps a bit.

    4/20/2018 8:32:00 AM - Sorry for my late reply. I like the 2008 Barolos quite a lot and had a couple of them recently. They are still primary at 10 years of age but drink "unfortunately" extremely well already, so very hard to resist. No rush to open those. The 2009 was a pretty warm vintage. The wines I had so far were pretty broad, more alcoholic and more advanced in their aging process. Some I didn't like too much despite coming from excellent producers (G. Rinaldi, Clerico etc.). I would recommend opening a few to check on those and then decide by yourself how to proceed with them. I fear that some of them never come to a excellent drinking window. Hope that helps.

    5/10/2018 4:01:00 AM - Definitely no rush to open the 2006, 2008 or 2010s. They will all be 20 year wines, I am pretty sure. As I mentioned, open one of the 2009 rather sooner than later and see how you like them now. 2007 I am not so sure, haven't had too many to comment on.

WOW!
This is one of the best wine of my life.
Shared by a friends, opened 3h before, need time in the glass.
But there was a moment during the dinner, when I drank and was Beautiful. That the heart was full of joy!
The perfume was classic old Bartolo's Barolo, but the joy was in the palate. A sweet tannins, great acidity. Marzipan. wow!

I'd been hearing some news that this producer had improved, so I decided to try a bottle. So it's either that 2015 is just so good that even mediocre producers can make good wine, or they have improved a lot, or both. The nose is fresh with lots of citrus: sweet lime and tangerine -with time a little pineapple and red apple. There's a bit of herbs and some stones/rocks. The palate shows a lot of smoke up front, and then comes the lime and tangerine, followed by the stones and rocks. There is excellent acid/sugar balance here and the mouthfeel is lovely - light and fresh and lip-smackingly delicious. The finish is quite good and lively. This isn't the most complex Spatlese I've had, but it is excellent. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 16/20.

Pale yellow color. Very muted nose with not a lot of fruit. The fruit you could smell was yellow, particularly lemon. The mouthfeel again muted and with yellow fruit. The wine carries just a bit of residual sugar but it is almost a dry wine. I expected a bit more inner sweetness. The aftertaste was considerably tart which I didn't like at all.
The wine is obviously well made, but unfortunately the second wine from Eva Fricke which did not get me excited. Maybe this one was way too young?

What a dark Nebbiolo! The nose is somewhat muted, some red&black berries, dark spices and also a bit of alcohol unfortunately. The palate is at first also a bit muted but then it hits you: Lots of strong spices, tar, dark cherries and pretty big tannins. For me almost too extreme. The aftertaste is then very long.

    12/18/2016 11:14:00 AM - Yes I liked it and you are right - the warm vintage is reflected in the wine. However, I would not stock too many in my cellar. I have one bottle left which I am happy with but would not buy more. Drank a lot of worse Lange Nebbiolo.
