2009 A. Rafanelli Cabernet Sauvignon

Dry Creek Valley more

Blind theme was Napa, Sonoma or Washington Cab or Meritage. The tasters zeroed in on Sonoma, and most thought it was Cab. Med. garnet, not as dark as some of the others. Nose perked up with air, lots of red and dark fruit, a bit of forest floor. Palate was smooth and integrated, just starting to come together, based on our other bottles. Big cab mouthfeel, tannins present but not overwhelming, some spice on the mid-palate. Long finish. One taster thought it seemed like a cab by a zin maker. Interesting. Rafanelli cabs require some patience, but definitely rewards such patience.

Wow, I was surprised by how dark and full bodied this wine is given that it's 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 10% Carignan. Lots of blackberry and currant flavors jump from the glass ending with notes of pepper and violets. Full bodied, very balanced and great length. Great value. Wish I bought a case but probably won't find it anymore.

11/8/2017 10:36:00 AM - I just bought a case @City Sprits North in North Attleboro, MA. I would be surprised if you could not find in locally or with Wine Searcher Pro!

PS: Checked Cellar Tracker Pro! Note most sources are East Coast, but I saw one in CA. Hope this helps!

2011 Monte Santoccio Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

Corvina Blend, Corvina more

3/11/2016 - Old Amarone Likes this wine: 95 points

This wine is made by Nicola Ferrari who spent years working with Giuseppe Quintarelli who was responsible for the famous $500 Quintarelli Amarone. Quntarelli died recently and Nicola Ferrari now has the knowledge to make that spectacular Amarone! I bought 6 bottles at $70 each and the prices will probably skyrocket when word gets out! As of now, no reviews are yet available for the Monte Santochio, but I bet it will rate 95 or better when Parker gets a taste!!

7/8/2017 3:00:00 PM - YOU ARE CORRECT! THE PRICES ARE MUCH LOWER now AND THIS IS A SURPRISE! I PAID ABOUT $70 PER BOTTLE ON MY FIRST PURCHASE, HOWEVER I FIND IT LOCALLY AT LESS THAT, OFTEN AROUND THE MID $40s BY THE CASE! I love this wine and have 40 bottles in my 1916 bottle cellar!
