Probably my favorite bottle so far. Electric tones of peach and tangerine buzzed in my mouth and, with time, lime and white floral notes built. Just a dazzling wine.

Tasty chardonnay, but a bad value. Lots of citrus, a bit of brioche, and some stoniness.

The Last Few Weeks; 9/1/2020-11/2/2020: Drank over dinner at The Grill on the Alley in Thousand Oaks, CA. Splash decanted by the sommelier. I really liked this! Great composition of red fruit, oaky notes, and edgy tannins. All of those elements were nicely aligned and worked well together. Simply put, this had a heck of a structure. Palate had the red fruits and some of the charcoal notes, but also had a really appealing earthy/spicy note to it. Great value.

11/2/2020 9:25:00 AM - Double-checked and it's actually in Westlake Village. Wine menu is grossly overpriced, but thought the $125 for this 2011 Mount Eden was a decent price. Business trip too...so that helps.

After nearly 25 years of serious wine drinking it takes a special wine to stop me in my tracks. That is exactly what happened on my first sip of the Bénetière Côte Rôtie. It's an essence of all the things I look for from the appellation, ranging from floral to fruit to stone, with all the meat and smoke elements that make Côte Rôtie such a fascinating wine to drink. It's quite coiled up, which makes sense given the age of the wine. Following it over about 4 hours gave the opportunity to have it soften aromatically, but it remained quite firm on the palate the entire time. I've never had an aged wine from this producer, but all the signs point towards a positive evolution over the medium to long haul.

6/6/2016 9:27:00 AM - Wait until you get to try an older one. I was lucky enough to try the 2004 last Fall and it was thrilling. Interestingly, while the wine was firmly rooted in Cote Rotie, I noticed what I thought were more Burgundian-like elements of earth/wet leaves/mushroom that I loved.

    Great note.

A great vintage of this great wine. Had this open for about 24 hours and the wine was lithe and earthy with beautiful dark fruits. The mouthfeel was gorgeous - silky & airy. I like the potential to age this for 10-12. Old school syrah.

5/31/2016 9:11:00 AM - I haven't had the 2010 in a while - generally, I like 2010s more than 2012s, so my thesis would be that it would hit somewhere above this wine. It'll probably last longer, too.

Enjoyed this a lot over the course of the evening. Had some stemmy/plummy notes at first that seemed to freshen up to feature some nice floral accents along with some berries. Undertones of wet earth emerged, too, which I liked. Great structure is present, so there's plenty of life ahead of this one.

7/31/2015 10:21:00 AM - i thought it retained its freshness. certainly a different animal than it was on release...the exuberant fruit has quieted, but the structure and acidity are still there in spades.

Bright & zippy with nice mineral and floral elements. Opened during a backyard BBQ and couldn't have been happier.

7/25/2015 6:12:00 PM - depends on what you're looking for, i suppose. i think it still retains some of its youthful freshness right now, but the tertiary flavors haven't emerged yet. give it another few years to build out those tertiary flavors a bit more if that's your cup of tea. i'd say it'll start to slowly decline in about 10 years.

Nose was pretty closed down showing just a bit of pomegranate and roses. Even after 3-4 hours of decanting this was, essentially, a one-note wine with the pomegranate tone sticking around. The mouthfeel was the best part of this wine...tannins were soft and the body was very lightweight and airy.

UGC Chicago (The Drake Hotel - Chicago, IL): The Lynch Bages of recent vintages have seemed more sappy, modern and hedonistic than the lovely wines of yesteryear. This fits into that hedonistic model. Fruit was sappy, gummy and dark. Just didn't have that sense of place and was over oaked and smokey. Disappointing.

Infanticide!!! (Publican, Chicago IL): nose: completely overblown and over ripe nose with tones of black fruits, oak, black marker tones and lots of liqueur. This wasn't all too enjoyable on the nose.

taste: full bodied with good supporting tannins, but there is a good amount of heat on this as well. Extremely ripe and rich with overblown tones of black fruits, black marker, and lots of oak.

overall: this was far from my cup of tea. I wonder how it will be in the future, but it was over ripe and over blown. Others at the table liked this, I was the opposite.

This wine wasn't pure, elegant and sexy when I opened it. I sat here drinking it, referencing Zach and Salil's notes thinking, "wtf is wrong with me...". Fastforward to hour 4 and things are starting to make sense. The aromas have become more floral and while the dark fruit is still there in spades, they're augmented by iodine and iron notes that are really nice. Palate has this wildness to it with gamey flavors that mingle with softer floral-driven notes that soften the masculine core. I see good things ahead for this wine.
