2016 Grosset Riesling Springvale Clare Valleymore |

4/24/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRPlump and soft with generous plummy fruit and stewed dark cherries. I agree with the "turkish delight" observation - it has a sweet flowery character. Soft supporting tannins. Rather inviting. |

4/15/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRIn line with previous notes this was showing that pipe tobacco and leather character, and plenty of raisin and fig fruit. But noticeably better on this occasion, finally seeming relaxed and resolved rather than tight for hours and hours upon opening. In my opinion this is now at its peak. |

4/13/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRMy first experience of this producer, who in Tom Stevenson's opinion is underrated. I was surprised to see a grand cru from such a highly regarded vineyard and top producer in a good vintage on sale so cheap, but I was disappointed by the wine. It was recognisably rieslingy (petrol and peach on the nose) and had definite Alsatian character, but I found it excessively fat and a bit oxidative, with too much of the wet hay character that I get on pinot blanc and don't really like. Hopefully just a bad bottle. |

4/13/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRA serious wine. A bit muddy-looking (in a good way), it has good pinot complexity - earth, mushrooms, cranberry and cherry. These people know what they're doing. A bit sharp and green but, you know, it's a pinot noir. |

4/6/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRThis is very impressive. Didn’t open with any particular expectations, had a lovely initial impression of lemon pith, hay, dry and taut, a little bit herbal. But as it opened up it became way more complex, minerally, creamy even, and by the end I just wanted to go out and buy a case - the definitive measure of quality in my opinion. |

4/6/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRI’d forgotten what this was made from and on opening would have said it was a mature claret - has that old leather and cigar thing going on, but with a good palate of plummy fruit. Really rather lovely. |

3/31/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRThis is a first class wine. Can't quite believe I don't have a prior note for it. Lovely nose combining mature dried fruit - prune and date - but with the fresh mint and mature cassis, and then a layer of earthy dried leaves. On the palate, a certain creamy caffe latte character. Unctuous and delicious. Perfectly mature, drink or hold. Very sad this is my last bottle. |

3/31/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRA very odd thing happened...went to take what I thought were my last two bottles of the 2017 from the cellar, to find that what was there was these 2 bottles of 2012 that I have no record of (and no 2017s). Have I drunk 4 bottles of 2017 not noticing that it was actually 2012? If not where did these come from? Anyway, delicious steely, classic Alsatian Riesling. Now the question is whether my previous notes for the 2017 are really for the 2012?! Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2020 Oreste Buzio Grignolino del Monferrato Casalesemore |
3/28/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRLight ruby red. On opening, utterly savoury, white pepper and olive nose with stems and something a bit earthy and dirty (in a characterful sort of way). Over time more cherry fruit emerges. Light and pleasant, enough in the way of tannin to give it some structure but not that extracted, which was welcome. Pretty good value too. |

3/27/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRMy husband hated this but I thought it was ok, especially for the price. Fresh, herbal, a bit of body, perhaps a bit medicinal/stemmy/raw on the finish but I didn’t think it was that objectionable. Perhaps a bit vacant on the mid palate. |

3/24/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRWell this blew me away. Bright transparent garnet. Highly aromatic. Really superbly polished complex aromas, yes you get florality and cherry all the rest of it but it just comes across as its own perfectly knit whole. Glossy and liqueur like. A bit sharp on opening perhaps but that's what you'd expect. Hard to resist now although I expect it would get even better. |

3/21/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRI was prejudiced against this because of the awful label and name and expected it to be some natural rubbish but I couldn’t have been more wrong! The purity of fruit is exceptional- dark cherry and plum - with earth and wet rock too. Linear, to use that awful expression. Very good value. Was much better after a lot of air. |

3/19/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRTasting properly mature. An old school claret. Quite fine, even thin, blackcurrant fruit, much more in the way of dead leaves, fireplace. Well proportioned, classical, very enjoyable but for me I think it will become increasingly frail and it is now time to start drinking up unless you like very very old claret. But I increasingly think people fetishise age in old wines, they're not at their best just because they're old, and I think this is now headed into that territory. At time of writing only 39% of those bottles held in community cellars has been drunk, frankly I think that's ridiculous, how long are people going to wait? |

3/16/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRDark red tending to brown. On opening still very fruity, mature blackcurrant. But you can leave it for hours and then it develops more in the way of mature spice and leather, cigar box, meat even, and dry toast. Full, monolithic, polished, mature and still with plenty of life. Still thick and fruity, but mature fruit. Not remotely fading. |

3/15/2024 - gtilley wrote: NROh my, this is a fantastic wine. Mid to dark red, ever so slight browning. The nose is utterly complete. Plummy fruit, tending to jammy - almost Australian! - but with a full complement of mint, leather, dried herbs, spicy oak, cocoa powder. And not overbearing - open, but moderated. Palate is consistent, and when paired with food (onglet on this occasion) plunges into more dried fruit, prune territory. Complex, inviting, totally integrated. Loved every sip. |

3/14/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRVery pleasant. Precise, distinct aromas of lemon pith (lemon sherbet), dried herbs, liqorice, a bit of sweat (I always get this from Collio wines) and something a bit like marshmallow. Good, persistent, fresh and light. |

3/11/2024 - gtilley wrote: NRRuby red. Energetic and high pitched ripe red cherry fruit, even tending towards the confected. Rather delicate on its own, rounds out and seems to have more depth and spice with food (chicken fricassee on this occasion). Quite inviting, has a certain glossiness, although not sure I see what all the fuss is about per certain reviews. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

Resolved tannins after plenty of air. I underestimated this wine previously. It is consummate. Drinking perfectly, or hold if you like it a bit more decrepit but it offers a great deal right now. |

Rich and honeyed, weighty, with good complexity - peach kernel bitterness, almond, woody herbs, a bit of vanilla, mashmallow even.
