2011 Horsepower Vineyards Syrah The Tribe VineyardWalla Walla Valley more |
12/31/2014 - rwalker82 wrote: 90 pointsIts honestly a bit early to rate this one - but giving it a 90 based on current enjoyment. As others have stated, this is from a cool WA vintage, which gives it a cool climate feel (reminded me a bit of a sonoma coast syrah). It has cayuse signiture to it - but at this point dominated by traditional cool climate syrah character, not that there's anything wrong with that. After reading the half dozen or so notes on this, a kinda knew what to expect with this before opening but wanted to pop before committing to the 2012s. I drank over 2 nights - by far my favorite was the initial glass, the wine mellowed out from there and by day 2 wasn't all that appealing. Its hard to tell exactly where this wine will go over the next few years, but I have hope that the wine will transition into something nice. |

7/12/2014 - rwalker82 wrote: 91 pointsPop and pour. Just a baby. This needs more time in bottle. Whereas the no girls 2009s were showy, this is more backward. Dark fruit, ash, minerally, earth, slight funk. Lots of stuffing. Like a bigger version of the 2008 no girls. Could be doable with a long decant. Otherwise, thinking at least another year in bottle. 91 with lots of upside. |

5/12/2014 - rwalker82 wrote: 92 pointsNice wine for red fruit fans. In contrast to the occidental, this has a red fruit core, more open structure, more apparent florals, grapefruit? nose, and classic orange peel-zest TRB PN qualities. In a good place right now but will improve over many years. |

5/12/2014 - rwalker82 wrote: 91 pointsEnjoyed this. Different than prior vintages imo (which I enjoyed). First, visually, lightish yellow, clear, zero haze. Nose, slightly tight, will get better with 6-12 months. Less tropical than prior years. Great balance - everything as it should be - thought more white burg than ca chard - lots of nuance. Buy this up. 91+ |

5/12/2014 - rwalker82 wrote: 94 pointsTasted with Will at RM. Beautiful wine. Very cool aromatics - floral, orange, brown sugar, tea, nutmeg?, blackberry. Taste... Dark black fruits, blackberry, slight cranberry, and some typ russian river big pinot qualities but not overblown. Structure in spades. Enjoyable now with decant but will get better in 1 yr. Into black fruits then drink this. Into red fruits then drink the summa. |

5/4/2014 - rwalker82 wrote: 93 pointsTasted at pickup day. As a background, love the Bedrock and Carlisle Papera's. This wine is surprisingly in a very nice spot right now - in comparison, the Bedrock needs time in bottle to settle down. Ripe red fruits, nice structure and acidity, just very enjoyable to drink. |

Nice red fruits and cool florals. My sense is that this needs at least 6 months to come around, but will have a long live ahead of it. 88 now based on enjoyment. 90+ on potential |

4/22/2014 - rwalker82 wrote: 91 pointsPopped for Easter dinner. This wine is still a baby - needs 1-2+ years in bottle to settle down. Definitely not a fruit bomb - more restrained red/raspberry type fruit (kind of like a dry creek zin). Has interesting but restrained florals. Inital sip makes it seem accessible but then immediately shut down with a wall of intense fine grained tannin. Enjoyed with a fatty juicy rack of lamb, which didn't put much of a dent in the tannin wall. 91-94 based on potential. Storing my other bottles for as long as possible |

Really like this wine - ripe but has ample acid - very white burg to me. Given the ripeness, I question if it was acidified, but then again I don't care because its damn tasty. Had some heat poking through on the backend - only issue. Looking forward to enjoying over the coming two years. |

Wouldn't recommend opening for at least six months. As others noted, not made in typical flamboyant KB style or even std RR PN style (but I can see if gaining weight and volume with time in bottle). Curious if stylistic shift or overcropped... |

3/30/2014 - rwalker82 wrote: 91 pointsTasted at pickup day. Score based on current enjoyment. The SLH was by far the most accessible of the three wines. I noted this to the staff who said the RR and SC had just recently been bottled, hence the tightness on those two wines. Wine was medium ripe - black fruits - balanced- quite tasty. Hold the rr and sc for now. |
