2020 Viña Peñalolén Cabernet SauvignonMaipo Valley more |
1/13/2024 - Tim and Bonnie Likes this wine: 92 pointsAn interesting and intelligent wine. A muse in a glass. Carries notes of (forgive me while I overindulge myself) black cherry, dried blackberry, gooseberry, fruitwood smoke (a hint), cooked brown sugar, dried tangerine skin, red plum, mushroom, violet, pepper plant leaf, and later, eucalyptus and thyme. |

2019 La Compagnie Rhodanienne Gigondas Bois de MengeRed Rhone Blend more |
6/13/2022 - Tim and Bonnie Likes this wine: 87 pointsOn day one you root for this wine because it’s a Gigondas you found for $14.99 at Trader Joe’s and you want to brag to someone about the wine steal you found. You might even pull out the now non-cool term…duh, duh, duh…QPR. But, alas, as much as you try to convince yourself it’s engaging and deep, it’s only linear, monolithic. Although, it makes one crave pork or turkey, so serve it with anything with which you’d serve cranberry sauce on day one. |

5/21/2021 - Tim and Bonnie wrote: 85 pointsGuessing this is more like a 13% ABV. When one imagines a 15% ABV wine, it connotates an entirely different drinking experience. |

4/12/2021 - Tim and Bonnie Does not like this wine: 86 pointsHot, the alcohol is rough. They’re selling the bottle (heavy, deep punt, attractive label), not the wine. |

2015 Fratelli Barba Montepulciano d'Abruzzo I Vasari Old Vinesmore |
8/17/2019 - Tim and Bonnie Does not like this wine: 82 pointsPrice point way too high at $19.99. One could explain how its surprisingly lightweight, citrusy taste would go well with chicken, but so will a $7 Chateau Saint Michelle Chard, so why spend more? Can think of many more wines below this price range, Juan Gil, for instance, that throw this one out at first base. |

8/12/2019 - Tim and Bonnie wrote: 89 pointsVery present fruit and tannins. Reminds me of Liberty School, but only because I had LS first. Could’ve been the other way around. |

5/1/2019 - Tim and Bonnie Likes this wine: 95 pointsFolks, this is what wine is supposed to taste like! I’ve been very confused and even doubting myself as regards reviews for wines in the $100 range. They, for the most part, totally disappoint me; and so I write an honest review that rates those bottles much lower on the scorecard than most others, and I somehow feel a burden of guilt about doing so. |

2010 Beaucanon Cabernet Franc Cuvée LouisNapa Valley more |
2/15/2019 - Tim and Bonnie Likes this wine: 95 pointsThis is, hands down, one of the best wine buys left in the United States. While most vineyards have mounted the profit horse, Beaucannon has done what you hope your children would do were they winemakers, and offered extravagantly beautiful wine for a reasonable price point. |

4/12/2019 - Tim and Bonnie Likes this wine: 86 pointsOld world nose, which is a positive for us; supported by layers of reddish fruit. Not big and powerful, more delicate, although not weak. |

3/1/2019 - Tim and Bonnie Does not like this wine: 82 pointsGuessing the Spanish, who make, IMHO, some of the greatest wine in the world at the best value, send us this because frankly, we’re Americans. And we’ll buy it, and drink it, and not complain. |

2016 Goldeneye Pinot Noir Anderson Valleymore |
10/14/2018 - Tim and Bonnie Likes this wine: 93 pointsIt’s back! Whereas we dissed the 2014 because it broke the line of consistent goodness, we didn’t write off the producer. The 2016 is delicious, gobs of chocolate and fruit presented in a sophisticated and balanced format. |

2016 Orin Swift SlanderCalifornia Pinot Noir more |
10/11/2018 - Tim and Bonnie Likes this wine: 89 pointsNo doubt it seduces with fruit and power, it simply lacks finesse. If you desire a luscious bi-tone wine to enjoy without being distracted during a convo, a business meal perhaps, order this. Actually, I’d recommend this for a business meal...you’re likely to close the deal! |

9/23/2018 - Tim and Bonnie Likes this wine: 90 pointsThe 90 is concretely conjoined with its QPR. If it had a solid mid-palate, it would be priced at $30+. To be specific, it sits just above the tongue, and doesn’t touch the upper back roof of the mouth. |
