Bottom 1/5th of cork crumbled when I opened but the rest of the cork was fine. Decanted and let breath for 2 hours and was still robust and flavorful. More so than I expected for a nearly 15 year old vintage.

Let breath for about 90 minutes and noticed the cork was nearly soaked through (and a bit loose when pulled). But the wine was fine with cherry, plum and hints of tobacco.

Visually striking, with its violet-edged, opaque ruby-red color, the 2019 Rubicon opens gradually, revealing notes of blackberry, black cherry and cassis. Upon more aeration, notes of espresso, clove and cassis bud emerge. On the palate, silky and fine-textured tannins are wrapped around a firm structural core that anchors the wine. Subtle hints of tobacco, black licorice and anise during the extended, seamless finish. The overall vibrant energy and refinement of this elegant wine mark it as quintessentially Rubicon.

Decanted for about 2 hours before enjoying with a steak dinner. Maturing nicely and still enough backbone (with medium tannin) to stand up to the meal. Think this will perfect in another 2-4 years.

Drank my last bottle of this vintage with a nice NY steak. Cork was dry & crumbled but decanted for an hour+. This still could age for another couple of years as has some tannin in the finish. Good but not great.

The Four Vineyards is a select Pinot Noir from RSV’s four organically farmed Napa/Carneros vineyards.
