Raspberries, red cherries and cranberries on the nose. Also green herbs, but in a good way to give some complexity. With air a beautiful tone of red violets also emerges. This is a much more structured and classic wine compared to the 2020-vintage. Personally I prefer this style. Medium plus acidity and medium length. Good effort for a BR.

Medium garnet.

Medium plus intensity on the nose. Aromas of rose petals, sweet ripe strawberries, truffles, smoke, tar, toasted wood, liquorice and thyme.

Medium plus body, pronounced flavour intensity, high level of fine grained tannins, long finish. A little alcohol warmth.

This wine is in a quite good spot now. I was afraid it would be over the top, but far from it. There is still a lot of primary fruit left here, and the tannins are very present. No hurry to drink up.

Aromas of blackberries, dark plums, meat, olives, sun-ripened fruit, violets and minerals. Generous sweet fruit in the mouth, a rich and quite deep wine, seamless, harmonious, medium plus concentration, good length. Very pleasant Côte-Rôtie.

I served this wine blind to 4 other tasters. No doubt that this was a Northern-Rhone wine, and they were also pretty sure it had to be a Côte-Rôtie. But the wine was surprisingly youthful and the age was quite grossly missed by the blind-taster.s. They thought the wine was apx 10 years old, and they were surprised when it turned out to be closer to 20 years old. Fascinating how youthful this bottle appeared.

The wine got apx an hour in the carafe before serving. Aromas of redberry fruit, figs, leather, cedar wood, paprika, slightly oxidative balsamic notes and a pronounced iron minerality. Builds complexity with more air, and a florality in the direction of violets emerges more clearly, as does a clear citrus touch. A very harmonious, balanced and seductive wine. Silky soft tannins, high acidity, medium plus body, very concentrated and with a long pleasant finish. A wine that started well, but grew and grew with time in the glass/carafe. It was at its peak after about three hours.

I served this wine blind to four other tasters. They all quickly went to 80s bdx, and from there it was a short way to Margaux. One of the tasters was impressively quick to state that this had to be Palmer 1989. Spot on!

A beautiful complex nose with aromas of strawberries, red cherries, tobacco, cedar, vanilla, figs, leather, spices and some coffee,

Medium mouthfeel, medium plus acidity, medium plus intensity, medium level of velvety, fine grained an really mature tannins. A really lingering finish.

This is so balanced, nothing out of place. The acidity is backing up the nicely consentrated fruit. A very complex wine with both primary, secondary and tertiary characteristics, and readily identifiable aromas.
A very typical mature Rioja.
Again and again mature Riojas continue to impress me. And this is not even a high end wine. Bravo!

Drinking beautifully now, but this can still last another decade if stored correctly.

An incredibly complex and fascinating aroma profile. Dark ripe raspberries, blackberries, leather, bacon, iron, white pepper, toasted wood and vanilla notes. The oak is still evident, but no longer overpowering. Very concentrated, great mouthfeel, delicate and fine-grained tannins, and endless finish. A fairly structured Mouline. An absolutely stunning wine at the start of its drinking window, a drinking window that will last for decades to come.

The wine was given three hours in the decanter before serving. Distinct aroma of candied lemons. Apples, white peach, jasmine and stone minerality. Also a clear, but well integrated, hint of oak. Slender mouthfeel, good concentration and nice length. This was surprisingly good! I served this bottle blind, and really experienced tasters were guessing Burgundy village or 1'er Cru from a good producer, but lacking a clear adress. Obviously. Drinks very well now, and will probably do so for a few more years, but there is probably nothing much to gain from long cellaring here.

Medium (+) intensity
Aromas of ripe dark fruits, blackberries, crickets, blueberries, black olives, floral notes towards jasmine, smoked meat.

Full body, medium acidity, high level of ripe tannins, juicy, medium (+) finish.

Quite typical young Northern Rhône on the ripe side. Delicious now, but will probably benefit from a couple of more years in the cellar to better integrate the tannins.

Pronounced intensity with aromas of ripe apples, lime, apricots, pineapples, honeysuckle, honeydew melon and some tertiary aromas towards ginger. No petroleum.

Good concentration, medium body, on the sweet end of the spätlese-spectrum, good length. Lacks a little freshness and energy, but all in all an enjoyable semi-mature spätlese.

Nice pairing with a simple Asian spicy wok with basmati rice.

A very complex wine with great intensity and freshness. Still delicate. A beautiful lingering finish which goes on and on. Delicous already, but the oak might benefit from another 2-3 years of cellaring.

A little uncertain of what to expect from this one. Basically a very good vintage in the Northern Rhône, but Les Becasses is not one of Chapoutier's top wines. A number of notes expressed that this probably is past its peak. Decanted carefully and only got 20 minutes of air before the reindeer was plated. Fortunately, nothing to worry about.

Maybe not love at first sniff, but with some time in the glass the wine opens up nicely. It alternates between red berries like cranberries and lingonberries and a delicious cool blue fruitiness. There is also a distinct florality here reminiscent of violets. Also scents of undergrowth and earthiness, pepper, leather, tobacco and a hint of coffee. No intrusive aromas here, but there is a great complexity in the wine when you give it time and space to communicate.

Medium concentration in the mouth, with a slim mouthfeel. Still plenty of velvety tannins, good acidity. Great balance and more than enough fruit left. I am really seduced by the lovely cool blue fruit. Only 12% alcohol. However, I could have wished for a slightly longer ending.

Nice start to the wine year 2023 this.

If you are into mature Bordeaux this wine is in a great spot now. It won't get better from here, but with bottles like this there is really no big rush either.

Very tight just after opening. A couple of hours in a carafe helps, and a rather generous aroma of red cherries is showing up. I also find raspberries and violets, but in terms of aroma this bottle remains guite introvert and shy. The palate, however, is a different story, and it brings to mind greater optimism on behalf of the vintage. A delicious velvety mouthfeel, crisp fruit, medium plus concentration and great acidity. Good length. A fairly compact village with dense fruit. This will need cellar time. An energetic wine with all components present, they just need time to fall into place. And with time this will evolve into a brilliant village. My remaining bottles will be left in the cellar for at least 5 years.

A lot of dirty barnyard when opening. Probably brett? Or is it related to the low sulphur production? Fortunately, an hour in the carafe helps a lot. And from here it just gets better and better. The wine has an incredibly complex aroma. Cool fruit, mainly on the dark side, with crackling and juniper, but there is also some red fruit here in the direction of cranberries. Lots of classic syrah markers like hung meat, leather and stall, black olives, pine needles and camphor. Also a fairly distinct scent of granite. In addition, a floral touch in the direction of lilies that comes and goes.

Medium plus concentration, cool fresh fruit, juicy, a drying tannin bite despite its 9 years, high acidity, very long and pleasant finish. It just lasts and lasts.

A fresh and seductive wine, at the same time as there is a wonderful rawness here. The freshness lies in the light and juicy mouthfeel, while the aromas and finish represent the rawness.

Both fruit, tannins and acidity indicate that there should be no hurry here. But what about the overwhelming barnyard that never really let go? Will this fault be reinforced or fade away with more storage? I'm not sure.

There is a lot of quality here. And singularity. Lots of drinking pleasure. But the barnyard notes prevent the wine from reaching its full potential. I say 90 points, but this both could and should have been more.

Aromatic nose of yellow apples, peaches, lychees, raspberries, slate and flint. A powerfull wine, but still with a lot of finesse and elegance. Very concentrated, high acidity, seamless, very long. An incredibly balanced and elegant wine! The 2012-vintage is perfectly mature now, but a 2005 tasted alongside was still in good shape. This suggests that it will probably drink well for a at least 5 more years, but I guess it is in it's prime at the moment.

An hour in the carafe to open up. Aroma of ripe lemons, yellow apples, great minerality with limestone and flint, salty sea, hazelnuts. A typical chablis on the nose. The palate, though, is what impresses me the most. Steel like acidity, phenomenal fruit concentration, salty, energetic, very long. A relatively rich style, but everything is in beautiful balance. Delicious, fresh and refreshing on a hot afternoon on the terrace.

I notice that some people have expressed concern about the cellaring potential for 2014 white Burgundy and Chablis due to the high acidity. Well, I do not share an ounce of this concern. The underlying fruit in the vintage is so incredibly beautiful with a very high concentration, and the 2014 fruit will have zero problem balancing the 2014 acidity for a long time. This wine is only at the beginning of its drinking window, but due to a slightly obsolete bottle last year, I did not dare to wait any longer with this one. Unfortunately my last bottle, but I would very much like to taste this again both 5 and 10 years down the road. 2014 shows again that this is a great vintage in Chablis! 91 points
